glass fronted smokeless coal fire

Hi I was discussing the heating arrangment that was in our council house in the sixties and I cannot remember the name of the manufacturer of these fires.

The fire burned smokeless coal, we were in a smokeless zone, and heated the hot water and radiators.

The fire had a primitive thermostat which was a flap that as the water got hot it closed a gap and the fire stopped burning so fiercely.

The fire had a glass fronted door with strips of glass.
Anyone remember these fires and what they were called?

thanks

    Parkray?

That's what we had. The glass strips could be changed separately if one broke.

It sounds familiar but I don't think so.

Who else made that type of fire in the fifties/sixties and were fitted in new council houses that didn't have gas?

I believe it was called rayburn ????look like a aga but 10 times smaller???????
  • Could be a Rayburn Princess? Same as a Parkray but more angular, came in various colours like sepia, chrome, brown, just google search parkray roomheater, most likely it was one of those. Would LOVE one, but would be a real pain to make my fireplace take it.

    Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.
  • There was Parkray or Rayburn and they are still made.
