Internet explorer keeps shutting down

Options
A couple of days ago my IE starting playing up. I notmally use Firefox but I am currently studying and some video lectures I am watching are only compatible with IE. I can't think that I have downloaded anything that would have affected it in the last couple of days but it now either shuts itself down after 5 mins or I get the IE message saying 'IE has encountered a problem and needs to close'....etc

So far I have scanned for viruses using AntiVir, Malwarebytes and Superantispyware. Nothing showed up.
I tried a system restore to about three weeks ago and then ran all of the above and still no joy.
I have also tried disableing all add ons and it still closes itself down.

Could anybody offer advice and to what to do next??

Thanks,

Mark.

It is IE 8 - I was using 7 - when the problems started I thought it might be that version so I upgraded to 8.
There are loads of add ons but I have tried disabling them and it still closes down.

    try resetting ie.

    1. Close any Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer windows that are currently open.
    2. Click to open Internet Explorer.
    3. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
    4. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset.
    5. Select the Delete personal settings check box if you would like to remove browsing history, search providers, Accelerators, home pages, and InPrivate Filtering data.
    6. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset.
    7. When Internet Explorer finishes restoring the settings, click Close, and then click OK.
    8. Close Internet Explorer.
Your changes will take effect the next time you open Internet Explorer.

    Hi,

Not sure what no.2 was as 'the page could not be displayed'

Went through the other steps and reset IE but still getting the error message after a few mins.

Many thanks for your help in this btw.

What are the dangers associated with it being beta - can i get back to ie 8 if it doesn't work out?
