    Excuse me??

How do I know what and where the correct release candidate is?
I believe the latest version is RC1, dating from late August. Beta 3 is from June.

I have read recently that some people reckon it helps to remove all plug-ins for IE6, such as toolbars, before upgrading to IE7, so I wonder if this could have caused problems.

Now for your problem, IE (6 or 7) is integrated into the main XP OS system, so uninstalling it could cause other major problems.

Microsoft's remarks on uninstalling IE7 and reinstalling IE6 appear on

The WindowsSecrets newsletter above also includes
"One good thing is that the add/remove entry in the Control Panel actually does work. I was able to uninstall IE 7 and IE 6 and all my Favorites, etc., were returned unharmed.
