Well, have booked a survey for wednesday for a multifuel stove.

Trouble and strife seems happy that its going to cost a fair bit, so it looks like its on.

Will probably end up with an Aarrow acorn or sherbourne....... stove-top kettle is already on my bday wish list! :D

I think you will love it!

I would recommend getting two or three quotes if possible.

Got my stove top kettle from Argos in the sale approx 4/5 weeks ago. Great fun and saves us money in electric and oil useage.
We have not to have the central heating on as yet.

As A Badger says keep us informed....Good luck!

Well. Had a first quote and its quite a bit more than I expected.

For knocking out fireplace, replacing chimney pot with similar to existing ones (theres a gas one there at the moment), lining, slate hearth, lintel, and aarrow sherbourne small............

*roll the drums* £4,399 inc VAT *bd-tish*

Which does seem like quite a lot of wonga..... I could buy a pretty decent second hand car for that money.

    What do you think?

TOO much! Get a few more quotes! The sherborne is about £650 isnt it? Is the house a fairly average 2 storey job? And no great problems mentioned re the installation, such as collapsed midfeathers? Have you got a price for the slate hearth? Can you not open the fireplace up yourself?

Are you sure you have not misstyped that figure? Flippin eck!

Every install is different due to various factors, but that figure seems high to me.

I self installed and total was circa £1500 for Stove (clearview pioneer £904 after haggling) liner approx £240 for 904 grade 6 meters (good stuff), cowl, top plate & MA adaptor notice plate etc added around £60. Materials for register plate angle etc. £17(stainess offcut from local sheetmetal works. Lime morter etc around £25. £129 for building inspector. All these figures are from memory as reciepts are upstairs.

This does not include labour of course but if you could use these figures as a rough guide for your needs. You may then be able to obtain a figure for labour costs.

    Get a few more quotes!

    Thanks all.

Have spoken to another fitter who quoted me £65 for smoke test, £400 for fitting.... £1500 for lining....

Sorry Hethamr, whats a midfeather? The fireplace is bricked in and boarded up. Might just have to knock it through myself.

Might just do the smoke test and see whats they say.
