    I regularly see my meter reader both in my street but also in other areas where I live.

    There is no con whatsoever.

    Unless you are talking about meter readers in Tenerife !!!!!!

    I think the meter readings from the meters in the pavement are just not read, as I for one can't recall ever seeing a reader on hands and knees, especially where they have to undo the security seals to flip open the meter cover to enable them to see the reading, then re seal them - it just doesn't happen.     Water meters can be read from a distance, I have seen the guy reading ours, Doesnt even enter the garden.

    Grey wire runs from the top of the meter and into the outside wall.

    Those are smart meters , not all company's have them

    meters also have to be changed on a regular basis and with new technology automated meter reads will become the norm probably withing the next 15 years or so. so you will never see the meter reader ever again.

    and as gothic above says the regulator does apply fines if the water comapanys dont read your meter within 14 months.
    most stick to 12 montsh or less
    need to have a lightbulb moment
