Hi I have been waiting for Tesco to restock the,
Dell inspiron 15 Sempron V120 15.6" 2GB memory 250 HD 2.2 GHz 5in 1 card reader, web cam, DVD rewriter, 3 usb ports, Battery 4.5hr.
price £339
this is on page 8 at Tesco Laptops, but they have been out of stock for some time I phoned them yesterday they said they are still waiting for them but don't know when they will be in so I looked on Dell site and they have the following.
Insoiron 15 LCD 15.6 {1366x768 WLED with True Life 2.20 GHz processor, 800MHz 1mb BMA 4500MHD
Vidio Card Mobile intel Graphics Media accelerator [GMA] 4500MHD
Memory 2048 MB 1333MHz dual channel DDR3 SDRAM [1x2048
Hard Drive 250 GB [5.400pm Serial ATA Hard Drive
CD Rom/DVD+/- RW Rrive [read/write CD & DVD
price £329.
as you can see I am not very good at sorting these things out so I would appreciate your help.
Thanking you Drinda

I assume you're comparing this from Tesco (£339)
with this from Dell direct (£329)
They seem to be identical spec apart from the cpu (Sempron vs Celeron) and the cheaper of the two has a marginally better benchmark.
Both good entry level machines that will cope with basic surfing and word processing but will struggle with anything more demanding.
What do you intend to use it for?0 -
It is cheaper to buy direct from Dell and use topcashback to get 7% cashback 2 months later.Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £5740

Celeron? £299 with coupon code P0FB2G53RXRP09 before sunday, but you could probably fix the acer and save the money

Hi, I am buying it for my 50 year old son he has a very very old Acer that his brother gave him but that is playing up now. He is not the sort that is tied to his lappy just uses it for general things nothing special, I think he goes on a site to watch football & films that are not on the TV. or ordering his shopping as he's mostly housebound I just wanted to buy it for him to give him some interest for the winter, also as I pay his ISP for him it would be a waste if the old laptop does go. I was looking at the DVD writers between the 2 Dells not sure if one does more than the other and one is +/- don't know about the Tesco one. I couldn't understand how Tesco sell that one but Dell don't stock it so that's why I wondered if the one at Dell was more up to date.
Thanks Drinda0 -
how is it playing up? Slow?
Any new laptop you can buy can do films, browsing etc, and the specifics of the dvd aren't that important unless he needs bluray, they don't all have webcams if that is important to him!!

Hi, the old Acer is very very slow and the picture comes on screen in bits as it loads, he had blue screen abt a week ago, it only has 20 Gb hard Drive and it had very little memory, I bought him extra memory a couple of months ago that cost me £45 also a new power lead but now I don't think it is worth spending any more on it. this was the first laptop he has had so it gave him something to learn on so now I don't mind buying something a bit better for him, he lives on his own so it will give him something to do.

£45 is a bit much. Too late now anyway.0 -
yes I also bought one for my Acer Travelmate and that was less than Half what I paid for his Acer Aspire, perhaps I can get something back selling it on gumtree spares or repare.
Thanks everyone Drinda.0 -
As I suggested in one of your other threads, get him to post a hijackthis log and spec of the machine, slowness is in 99.9% of cases down to a software problem, which is easily cureable.
If you are interested in the dell, the money off coupon code to take it to 299, expires soon!!
