The reason people's DD's get raised after switching is because they don't monitor their consumption and submit regular readings-they just pay (under) estimated bills wit their heads in the sand and then eventually an actual reading catches up with them. The utility co cannot estimate your consumption for you before they start supplying you! Basing it on a previous occupant or the size of the property is irrelevant.
If you put your annual kWh consumption into a comparison site, the process is perfectly accurate. You can get your figures by looking at your last 4 bills or by calling your existing supplier.
Well we give meter readings by email when asked for them, mind you we do seem to be £170 in credit on our account but they told me its because you pay the same all year round to avoid massive bills in the winter and low ones in the summer which is why we switched to a DD agreement in the first place. I don't know, it just seems everything is so expensive and £86 a month all year round is a hell of alot of money since i don't feel like we use that much gas as its only the heating which is gas and i tend to just put more clothes on! We only heat the water 2/3 times a week for a bath.
Oh well i will log onto our account and see what tariff we are on, my partner is the one who sorts everything out but he just burys his head in the sand so I am trying to sort everything myself now as he doesnt have time! and i get easily frustrated :rotfl:0 -
That's why you need to calculate what your actual consumption is, and then take control. What you pay each month in DD is completely irrelevant-it's what you use each month that matters. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

13 is the Merseyside & North Wales (MANWEB) region.
That sounds plausible based on the location."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Hi carlandjules
Glad that this has been cleared up. Now you will be able to find the prices relevant for your area and make a call on whether you are getting a good deal or not. Knowing your annual consumption in kWh for both gas and electricity is the key to finding out what you should be paying and how much savings can be made by switching.
Kind Regards
