I have recently found out that my bank have been canceling my direct debits.
What are the rules in banks doing this? Can they legally do this? And are they in breach of the banking code of practice in doing so?
Can anyone please advise?

bank sometimes cancel mine if no payments were claimed0 -
The DD has been in use for the past year and recently they have decided to cancel it. Im sure this is in breach of the direct debit mandate.0

There has to be a reason for this. To re-itterate Mikeyorks:-Mikeyorks wrote:Do you have a recent history of not having the funds to pay Direct Debits?Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.0 -
Is it A&L/Santander the idiots have changed DDs and SO payments because they changed sort codes, managed to muck it up it in their usual incompetent way.Santander are awful - mission in life is to warn people since 17-Sep-10, 18-Sep-10 realised one of thousands.0

Banks DO NOT cancel direct debits without extremely good reason and warning.
I suggest you need to look at the way you operate your account.0 -
