Dualit Toaster - potentially dangerous problem
Comments
-
1. You pays your money and takes your choice!
2. The whole point of the Dualit NOT ejecting the toast is to keep it warm!
3. Setting timer doesn't take up much time, mine has no slop and I get perfect toast each and every time. Bad workman blaming his tools?
4. Never had my timer stall in 5 years of using it!
5. Never had an element burn out on my in 5 years of using it!
6. Depends entirely on what size of toaster you buy!
2 - I agree, plus there is something quaint in using the lever.
3 - I'm happy with setting the timer, it means that everyone can set it to their preference without accidentally using the previously used setting.
6 - What difference does the size make?\the parts are the same apart from the case - what size is yours?0 -

And I've still got a killer toaster ??? that's throwing good money after bad.0 -

And you feel this warrants an expose by watchdog?

The toasters come in various sizes - or am I missing a vital point here?
2 slice toasters
4 slice toasters
and then the larger industrial one.
Mine is a 4 slice toaster and is nowhere near as big as my small microwave!0 -
I am looking to buy a new toaster so looked in the library at the Which reports. It actually says none of them are particularly good,or at least none of them have particularly good performance, hence Dualit are pretty but overpriced imho http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1132066/5-toaster-best-thing-sliced-bread-Cheaper-models-match-costlier-ones-credit-crunch-test.html

yawn, here is an online sample but you have to pay to read it all-who would know toasters could be so....fascinating...
fixing?

For what it's worth, I think Dualit is good value for money. We've had ours for 15 years. The element on one side has gone once in that time - about 10 years ago. I wouldn't hesitate in getting the timer replaced - the one you've got is obviously faulty and there is no reason to think the replacement will be."I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that."0

Until i had this one, I tended to agree with your view - hence why I'd always wanted one. I also thought like you that I had a faulty timer, and wrongly thought that Dualit would confirm this and send me a replacement free of charge, or at reasonable cost without quibble. Their intital response made me dubious, so I did a search on the net - Type in "Dualit Timer Problem" on google and you'll see. This is a widespread issue and Dualit customer services don't seem bothered. I think it probably affects the newer ones and ones like yours are fine. I certainly would be prepaired to buy a new timer if I had some confidence of it lasting more than a few years, and more importantly, not burning my house down. Out of interest, do you watch your when toasting - Dualit recommend this.0 -
Hi,
I have had a Dualit 3 slice toaster now for a couple of years - first the lever went which was just out of the warranty period but they did repair it free of charge.
Last week though the timer got stuck & my husband did not realise, as he always lifts the lever earlier as he prefers his toast to be under rather than over done.
He went out not realising that the toaster was still on. I came downstairs about half an hour later to the smell of burning and it had melted the laminate covering on my kitchen cupboard above the toaster.
The problem with this is that you think the timer has finished because it has stopped making a noise. I think this is very dangerous and dread to think what would have happened if I had not been in the house at the time.
Hence I have got rid of the Dualit and bought a conventional pop up toaster now. We will both be very cautious about leaving a toaster unattended in the future.0 -

It does say on the manual that you shouldn't put the toaster under cupboards, as would your new one.
I still think they are crap though.0 -
Also says don't leave it unattended.0
