Have you lost anything?/Found anything?

Im currently doing a uni assignment on lost property. I was wondering if any one could tell their stories if they have ever found something or lost something? What happened? Did you ever get it back?

Thank you

  • Yep, lost a wallet once with over £450 in it while shopping in Lisburn. Searched everywhere with no joy, went to the police station just to leave my details incase and some very nice person had already handed it in. Everything was still in it and they left no details with the police so i couldnt give them a reward, all i know was that it was an eldery couple

I once dropped my purse and was gutted but somebody found it and used my surname to find me in the phonebook and gave me a call. I went to pick it up and took them flowers to say thank you :)

  • I lost my purse once. Cancelled cards and in a real tizzy abt gettin new id etc. Got letter in post few days later, a lady's grand daughter had found it on the bus. They tried to call me but we were ex-directory so not in phone book. She used the address off my driving license to send the letter and I went and picked it up from her :)

Most I've found is a £5 note when brushing shop floor after closed. Was told as long as till wasn't down I could keep it, till was fine so I got to keep the £5.

We have people leaving things behind all the time in the shop, bank cards and bags of shoppin mostly. We often get people calling to see if we have found things, sometimes we have them and they come to get them, other times it hasn't been found in our shop.

I lost my wallet in Lisburn one thurdsay evening just before xmas last year. Didnt realise until I got home and went back to look for it but it was nowhere to be found.

I resigned myself to the fact it was gone (and the nearly £200 i had lifted out at an ATM just before I lost it).

Later that evening i got a phone call from my mum to say a friend of hers had found it and taken it home to see if she could reunite it with its owner before handing it in to the police. She recognized my driving licence pic!

A big box of chocs and a hug were dispensed!

Lost a really good antique watch chain gold bracelet on he day my MIL died.
I think it must have fallen off when I stripped the bed and put the sheets in the wheelie bin :(
I later then lost her mothers engagement ring. I wore it to a party on a really cold and frosty night. i assumed it had fallen off on the way home when my hands shrunk in the cold.
Many years later we were redecorating the bedroom and it was found fallen down behind the radiator in our bedroom so it must have come off on that same cold night when I drew the curtains.
I dont think Ive ever found anything of value.

  • On separate occasions I've found a watch, a gold bracelet and an IPhone. Every time, I handed them in to a Police Station. None of them was claimed so I got them all back.

The watch never worked and was a bit beaten up so I binned it. The gold bracelet I still have and the IPhone was sensibly blocked by the owner so I now essentially have an IPhone shaped IPod Touch!

I left a purse in the back of a taxi one night, realised as soon as I got in the house, phoned the taxi company and told them the details of the pick up and drop off points and that the driver was on his way home. Despite telling them where he said he lived they told me there was nothing they could do. I lost £25 and had to cancel my Visa Debit card. My husband lost his phone the same night (how unlucky are we?!) and he never got it back.

My husband found a lady's purse outside where he worked. He figured out she might be one of their customers, tracked down her address on their computer system using her name inside the purse and returned her purse to her. She offered him a small cash reward but he told her to give it to charity.

    I've been a very lucky lady :)

Have lost my purse three times. Once dropped getting out of a taxi - someone found it and handed it in to the police who contacted me (luckily had business card in it). Once dropped it getting out of the car at B&Q (you can see a pattern here :)) and the first I knew was my name being called over the intercom - someone had found it and handed it in. And once left behind in a coffee shop - I had my dad's number in it and he got a call from a very nice member of staff to ask him to get in touch with me. People are basically decent :) Oh and I'm always leaving my keys in the loo at work :)

In return, I found a wedding and engagement ring in the loos of a restaurant. Luckily I knew the manager so felt ok about handing them over to her. Also found an MP3 player and handed it in to the police, don't know what happened there, they didn't even take any details. And found four £1 notes once when I was a kid blowing down our street. There was no way to know who owned them and in those days people like me did not go to the police (NI in the 70s) so I kept them.

Oh and a few days ago I lost an earring. Not expensive but it did have sentimental value. Weirdly I found it away down our street, in a place I definitely hadn't been while wearing it.

Oh and I've also lost a stone and a half but managed to find half a stone of it again :)
  • Had a friend from England staying quite a few years ago.
We walked from home down the Ormeau Rd to the Opera House and when we arrived my friend realised she had lost a small antique brooch -silver bow with a heart hanging from it.
Watched the show, went to the Crown for a drink and decided to walk home by same route, keeping an eye to the ground...... and there, on the pavement outside the Gasworks, opposite the end of Ormeau Av , was the brooch.
(Later, telling a friend from Lower Ormeau about this and my surprise that it was still there 4 hours later, he said he wasn't a bit surprised as no one looked down around there, they were all too busy looking round trying not to get shot!
    (It was along time ago)

  • Have found quite a few things over the years.
£20 in local market-handed in to office but no knowledge of whether it was claimed.
notes from cashpoint-given in to desk again but from the look on the cashiers face you would think I was trying to rob them.
    4p in Boots yesterday!
THANK YOU to the person who handed in my 70 year old mums purse from a train:)
often found cameras and simelar objects -handed in .
feel that most folk are honest.
