I love Capital One (please can I have my money now?)

I'm a little confused, maybe someone could help clear this up for me.
Getting money back from Capital One is always a long winded process and I'd like some advice to help me out next time, but here's how I got my money back this time:
Let me explain what I'm getting at . . .
Damn, I realise that the due date to clear the full balance on my Capital One credit card is today (better not miss it - I'm trying to build my credit rating back up!)
So I ring Capital One to make sure I have a Direct Debit setup. I don't. The Lady who is external to this country advises me to make an instant payment down at my local bank. No problem. Phew.
So I made an 'instant' bank transfer for 195.00 on the 18th Oct, as advised by the Capital One employee. After talking to her, I fully expect the transfer to arrive the same day (therefore not inccuring a late payment fee)
Two days down the line I look at my Capital One statement and there's nothing to show the payment has been recieved, instead two charges:
1) Late payement fee
2) Over credit fee
So I ring Capital One and speak with a call centre outside of the UK. The lady doesn't know what has happened and neither do I. She suggests I wait, believeing that the payment will eventually go through (possible admin error at the bank.)
And it does, on the 21st.
I look at my Capital One account and it shows the Late Payment Fee (LPF) has been withdrawn - great.
However the Over Limit Fee (OLF) still stands, even though the only reason I'm over my limit is because I incurred this Late Payment Fee.
So I ring Capital One and the Lady (external to the UK) tries fobbing me off, blinding me with numbers and refusing to accept that the OLF is due to the LPF. (I keep my calm and act polite)
I keep her talking, knowing that time is money and she offers to let me talk to the manager - I take the opportunity.
Back to the UK I go . . .
The very polite, soft spoken, local Lady gets to the bottom of things very quickly and gives reasoning more along the lines of my thinking - great
I feel better now knowing that I was always in the right and attempt to get down to business and have the OLF revoked, after all it was because of the LPF that this ever came about.
She says that it was through a gesture of goodwill that the LPF was revoked and agreed to meet half way and she gave me 6 of the 12 quid fee back - If I had the guts I think I could have gotten it all back, but I'm learning!
I've had a similar experience before with Capital One and each time I keep my calm and go the distance.
So the whole ordeal has taken roughly two hours, including this rant! I fully expect it to happen again but each time I learn more of the process and I guess this is the reason I'm sharing this with you all.
If anyone has any tips for me (other than making payments sooner!) I'd greatly appreciate them. :money:

How much of the £6 discount did they make back by having you on what was presumably a premium rate number of some kind? :P0

What form did the instant bank transfer take? Did you actually take the cash down to the bank to put into the account or did you pay online or using another card? AFAIK the only surefire way to get money from one account to another instantly (or at least by close of business on the same day) is to deposit cash over the counter. Some online transfers seem to go instantly, but some don't - I don't have a capital one card, but I know that for some reason I can't even transfer funds between two accounts held with the same bank instantly - it takes a few days to be processed, even though payments from other banks get through quicker!0

The same day payment should have worked. You need to contact your BS/Bank to find out why it didn't and get them to pay for any charges incurred. I have a same day payment set up with Nationwide and it works all the time.

Not a premium rate number but one at 4p a minute . . .
Call 1 - Indian Lady (7:23) cost to me 0.28
Call 2 - Indian Lady (10:14) cost to me 0.41
Call 3 - Indian Lady/English Lady (26:14) cost to me 1.04
Would the cost to Capital One have been higher than 6.00? I would have thought so.
Sure, I could pay by direct debit and most of my bills are done this way, but, I'm not a fan of the payment inconsitancies that can sometimes occur. Lets face it, alot of companies (in my experince) are prone to overcharging on occasion.I don't owe anybody anything and it feels great :rotfl:0 -
I have an account with Capital one and I bank with A&L (Santander). I do internet bank transfer once a month to make payment and it always shows up on my Capital One statement same day. Some banks may be different though and other creditors I pay at the same time take 2 or 3 days to appear.0

I went to my bank and paid using my debit card. I can make transfers between my accounts instantaneously, always. I bank with Barclays.
Thanks AMILLIONDOLLARS that seems a good idea. Apparently the delay was due to the cashier putting the ref. no. in the wrong field - but I've yet to confirm this with the bank.I don't owe anybody anything and it feels great :rotfl:0 -
I guess I stand a good chance of getting all the money back if the bank was negligent, right?I don't owe anybody anything and it feels great :rotfl:0

Can't see a problem here ? You paid too late, you went over your limit by paying too late (your fault), you got charged as would be expected, they refunded the late payment fee. Seems very fair to me !
If you don't like using DD's then expect some more charges if you're 'casual' about when you make your payments, but next time you won't get anything refunded !0
