Why do I need to get a Virgin Phone line?

I've got 50M virgin bb & now want to get some Sky sports channels. I appreciate that I've got to take the Virgin TV pack to get these, but WHY do I need to rent a phone line off them??
Given that I already have fibreoptic bb, I doubt that there's any technical reason. Is it , as I suspect, just a way of squeezing extra revenue out of people?

You don't, need to they have a price for customers with or without a phone line. I belive its around a £2 pm saving without.0

Its sometimes cheaper to have the phonline, plus if you have a problem you can ring 1500
