ticklepenny wrote: »Quick question..... regarding shoes (I love shoes).
I will be 7 months pregnant at our wedding so I dont want to wear proper high heels (4 inchers) as I think it will kill me.... however would it be sensible for me to wear 2 inch heels?
I have size 8 feet and I just dont look right in a dress with flat shoes, infact my feet look clownesque. Apparently 5ft8 isnt proprtionate for size 8 feet well on me anyway.
So far I have spent about 3 hours obsessing about shoes.
OH on the other hand has been an absolute genius and suggested that instead of wedding favours we have christmas crackers! I love it, so have discovered a place that does personalised christmas crackers. Yay!
Have also found bridesmaids dress for DD here I like it and think its pretty
Re the shoes thing - people made comments about my shoes - they were a pair of padded sandals from what was then the Scholl shop! I have funny feet and wedding shoes did not appeal....
My bridesmaids wore satin ballet pumps - and they were in pain by the end of the do! NOT ME!!! My feet were fine!
Seriously though - if you could get some sandals would you wear them or does it have to be shoes?:jFlylady and proud of it:j0 -

April through September I live in Sandals but September through April I live in shoes. My feet get so cold they turn blue, which isnt pretty so I would like to hide them in shoes and tights in December lol. Otherwise I would happily wear my clarks flat sandalsDS1 arrived 22/02/11! 8lb3oz

So still have naff cold Yay!
Today I went for my make up practice session and it was terrible! I have pale skin and asked to remain pale as I dont like how I look with darker foundation (tango'd) and I ended up looking tango'd. Then we discussed eyes and I said I wanted light shimmery colours with slight definition and eyeliner. I ended up with dark blue eye shadow with a little bit of lighter colour. Lipstick I said I didnt really wear lipstick as I dont really suit any colours, so to keep it natural. As soon as I said I was wearing a red dress she decided red would be a better colour for me. I ended up looking like one of the girls out of the robert palmer video addicted to love Apart from myt eye make up looked darker Oh and I'm pregnant and a size 24......so not a look I can pull off. For all of this I paid £60, thats the trial paid for and a deposit for the day but when I got home I just decided that I really hated how the make up looked and smelt (of all things). SO not very MSE but have decided to cut my losses and will be going shopping next week for make up so I can do my own. My current make up is about 5 years old and gunky lol.
Any way epic ranty post over with am off to lurk on other threads and posts to try and cheer myself up ....GrrrrDS1 arrived 22/02/11! 8lb3oz

Oh hun that's poo! You should have said something at the time about how orange you looked and that the eyeshadow and lipstick is not what you wanted at all.
I had my makeup done by Maydots daughter from here (not sure if you know her, she got married last month?) and at my trial she said she would stay until I got the exact look I was looking for.
As it went, she listened to me totally and got it right first time.
I understand where you are coming from because you know in your head what you are after and don't want to look like a Robert Palmer backing dancer or a clown, so if I were you, I'd ring or email her and tell her you weren't happy with it and see if there is anything she can do.
If not, I suppose the best thing would be to do it yourself, but please don't waste anymore money by buying your own make up before you've given the other girl a chance to put things right xxxTank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

My biggest problem is that I commented on it throughout, and she kept on going back to the foundation and eye shadow to "correct" it. So after 2 hours charged at £25 an hour I decided to call it quits and just go home. It bugs me alot as I stated to her when I walked in that my bug bears were tangoness and bad eye makeup. SO far in my life I have had 5 "professional" make up sessions and they have all ended with me either going home and taking it off or buying baby wipes and taking it off before I go home. I have now sworn to OH that I will never pay anyone else to do my make up, I'd rather spend £50 on some really nice make up I can reuse, rather than £50 on a one off. Sorry but am pregnant, full of cold and fed up with not being listened to.DS1 arrived 22/02/11! 8lb3oz

Ok what I would do then is go into your nearest department store (Debenhams etc) and say nothing about your wedding and just get them to do a trial for you...I am always being offered them when I go in and the best one I have found so far is the Estee Lauder section, they are very thorough and it's also MSEgive it a go it doesn't cost anything

Well she's obviously just crap then if she wasn't prepared to listen to what you, the customer wanted!
I told my make up girl I didn't want to look caked or tangoed and she used mineral foundation on me, which ended up looking like I didn't have make up on at all (but which hid any flaws in my skin).
Go to a department store as Rockinbikergal as suggested and see what they come up with. Some of those will actually do a trial while you are there and then you can buy the make up, but if you don't don't be afraid to say you don't like what they are doing if they are caking it on!
Hope you manage to get the look you want without spending too much money xxxTank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

I would ask for my money back as she is not doing the make up on the day now....put in a letter why you wish to receive the refund so that she knows why as well......
I ended up doing my own make up with a few tips from the girls in Debenhams....was actually in there this morning and got me another freebie make up do while hubby was shopping lol.....helped me feel better as I am feeling crappy today and am going to see Lady Gaga tonight so wanted a pick me up hehe

So make up..... went for a trial thingamy at a local department store. I have just decided as result that people seem to want to see me have orange skin. I very clearly stated that I am the palest colour for foundation and that I hate the fake tan or bronzed look on myself. So 30 minutes later I had a look in the mirror and low and behold I looked as if I had been tango'd. I said thank you but the foundation wasnt quite what I was looking for, sulked off to the loos to have a quick cry whilst removing aforementioned make up.
As a result I went into Boots and spent £50 on a whole host of make up products which will last me at least the next 2 years. I havent purchased any make up for the last 5 years so it is about time I had a clear out and replaced everything. I then did my make up and OH basically said " I dont know why you bother trying to get other people to do your make up when you do it so much better" :rotfl: bless him. So I am now planning on getting my nails done.....as I am pants at painting my nails.
My mate has offered to do my hair for free :money: as long as I provide all required hair products. So that should cost £19 including a clip in extension (as my hair is a bit too short for the style I want).
Bridesmaid Dresses. I ordered a 9-12month dress for my mates kid which didnt fit. I ordered a 18=24 month dress for DD which didnt fit. However the 18-24month dress fits my mates kid, so I only need to exchange the 9-12 month dress for a 3-4year old dress.
Oh and I still have the stinking cold which has travelled to my ears, but have now shared it with OH. I like sharingDS1 arrived 22/02/11! 8lb3oz
