Is Orange BB available regardless of retailer?

Hi, new poster to the forums but i thought you might be able to help.

I am looking at getting a new mobile on the Racoon 35 (18 month) to get free broadband. I'm not too bothered about the phone.

I have only seen one website 'buymobilephones.net' which seem to offer the free broadband when you get through to buy a phone on this tariff. Is the broadband available regardless of where you buy the phone?

I have read the various reviews of the above site and note they seem to be quite exacting in their cashback redemption requirements (14 days to claim i believe). I had a deal with e2save some time ago and the rules weren't so strict.

So, could anyone find a better deal on the Racoon 35 (18 month) than 14/15 months free (depending on phone) - or similar deals with a reputable retailer (solid history of paying).

Thanks for your help.

    Hi Fray Bentos,

    Welcome to the MSE forums.

    Short answer - no.

    Longer answer...

In my experience BMP have always had the best Orange 18 month deals in terms of cashback ranging from 14-16 months free. ISTR that they even had an 18 months free one at one point, but 16 months free is their current maximum level.

You could try E2Save & OSPS who may have some 12-13 months free deals but that's about as close as you will get.

However, I'm a little dubious about whether they (E2S & OSPS) will honour the cashback agreement if you then go directly to Orange to request your free broadband as an existing customer as this may trigger a clawback from the retailer. Despite BMP being a lesser known retailer, they may be your best (and safest) bet in this instance if only in legal terms because they seem to be offering both free broadband and cashback via their website, whereas the legal position with E2Save and OSPS wrt the free broadband offer isn't clear at all.

You might care to wait a while as Orange are changing their broadband offering shortly to allow the customer to pay £5/month for unlimited broadband (as opposed to the current 2GB limited offer, which will then be offered with all contracts above £30/month).

  • Superb, thank you for the quick and detailed response. I'll have a think then, i could wait until the deals change, i was going to do it before the end of the month to get a free wireless router from Orange but might reconsider now.

    Thanks for your help.
  • I have a Motorola L6 on Canary 30 16months free line rental, + sale of the L6 once I unlocked it andthe referral means I'm getting 18months free rental ultimately on Canary 30 and free orange broadband during that period, I might be upgrading to that unlimited/max offer for an extra fiver when it becomes available on the 25th of October.

Ressit is quite correct to praise BMP, they do the best Orange 18month contracts.
  • MoneySavingSpender did you use BMP then? Is it 14 days from the date on the bill to claim the cash-back? Have you used them before, how is the experience so far? (sorry for all the questions!)
  • I only took out the Canary 30 in late august, my cashbacks arn't until well into 2007 so not looked finely, but 14days does sound right, u cannot afford to forget or even delay with BMP, u need to be disciplined :)

With BMP it is indeed 14 days.

The thing that annoys me most about BMP is that you wouldn't find this out until AFTER purchase as they only say "within the time period set out on the voucher" on their website and it's only the voucher that they send with the phone that they specifically state the 14 day deadline.

Also, please be aware of the following condition, taken from their T&Cs:

16.3a. All Cashback claims will be paid by BACs directly into the bank account customers supply us with when ordering the mobile phone. This bank account cannot be changed so please make sure that you supply us with correct details when ordering your phone.

Although you're probably unlikely to do this, DON'T change your bank account before the cashback is fully paid up otherwise I fear they will use this as a reason to fail your claim.

  • Thanks for the further advice, another thing to beware of. BMP do seem to be tough but as MoneySavingSpender said if i am discriplined it should be ok.

The only thing that now worries me if that if i sign up for a contract now (before they change the tariffs) and then later decide i wanted unlimited broadband (and pay the extra a month) could BMP use this as a reason to deny cashback. I guess the answer is yes.

It's lucky all this thought, planning and organisation to do one of these cashback deals results in saving hundreds of pounds!

I'm really impressed by the quality and usefulness of the replies, thanks everyone.
  • the free broadband deal is with orange only, a by product bonus of taking a 18month £30+ mobile contract and nothing to do with BMP afaik.

Paying the extra fiver later on should not cause you any penalty from BMP, if they tried they'd fail in court to prove their right to do so IMHO.

I myself will be going unlimited for a fiver when it becomes available.
  • If i needed to have my current number ported but not immediately (in a couple of months) is there anything in the BMP t&c's that would cause the cashback to be rejected?

I'm very confused with the Orange BB offer !!

I was about to purchase with E2Save, but before I did I contacted the BB team at Orange. I asked them do I qualify for free BB on an Orange contract via E2Save, they have assured me on two seperate ocassions that this is fine. However, after contacting Orange, but not the BB dept, but the CS dept, they said no way !!, it had to be purchased with Orange direct ??

I have sent 3 e mails to Orange so I can get the definative answer (in writing)
but the ignorant B******S have yet to bother to reply.

    Confused............
