I think some of the prices quoted on here are from a different world.

Back in the real world by way of comparison, a large hardware store in liverpool is currently selling

Glow-Worm Betacom 24C Condensing Combi Boiler (Fitted) - £699 (inc. VAT)

and if you were as forceful and dogmatic with them when they visited to price the job up as you have been on here on what you think the costs/timescales are then perhaps they included a hefty "customer em!!!!!!ance factor" in their price or deliberately priced it to ensure they didn't get the job.

    Cheers

I'm not being forceful at all. The prices I estimated still came to over £2000. From the plumbers £2850 price he will be left with about £1800. If he can fit the boiler and pipe in 2 days he'll be done within the week, say a week. Plumbers are busy so you are looking at about £100,000 income per year. _party_

My friend, plumbers can easily bring their prices down, if they don't, the Poles will.

    I wish!

Poles won't be around to honour any warranties and most are not qualified and have insurance etc etc.

You pays your money, you takes your chance. I've lost count of the number of boiler installs I've been called to that were fitted because my quote was beaten, only to find no one could be contacted when problems arose.

By the time they had paid me to put it right they would have saved money by accepting my quote in the first place, and they still had no warranty:rotfl:

The point still remains that a boiler that plumbworld are selling for £507.98 inc VAT is offered fitted for £699 so fitting is charged at less than £200 plus retail boiler cost.

If these were the types of price charged I do not think anyone would be moaning.

And before anyone says it rapid are a long established company not some cowboy - http://www.rapidhomedirect.com/about-us.php - and no I don't have any connection to them.

Actually you are but you haven't realised it yet. You are adopting an "ive made up my mind don't confuse me with facts" approach.

Your individual estimate of prices is truly irrelevant. The plumber quoted for a job. You managed, somehow, to draw the conclusion that he was charging £ 600 for a new gas feed (which is nothing less than pure guesswork) yet you clearly have no idea why it will be needed.
Plumbers are busy so you are looking at about £100,000 income per year.
I can imagine the number of people reading this who are having sheer hysteria at this very thought because it shows how far out your mathematics is.
My friend, plumbers can easily bring their prices down if they don't the Poles will.
The Poles did, the Poles got found out, many of the Poles have gone home. You are out of touch truly and I'm not trying to be offensive in saying that.

    Cheers

Thats also faulty mathematical logic. Talking of the real world as you were its not been possible to legally fit that boiler since 1st October 2010 BTW unless it had been ordered prior to 1st October.

But it does not actually say it is going to be supplied and fitted for this price.

It actually says 'subject to survey'. That unobtainable cowboy price is just to get unsuspecting customers 'through the door', then boost the quote once they see the job.

If you think you will get a good boiler swap done, including a full powerflush and upgrading the controls to meet current regs for £200, then I need to start smoking whatever it is you do:rotfl:

I expected this completely unsubstantiated point to be made hence why I specifically provided the link to their 'about us' page - "family run department store based in Liverpool since 1971 ... In August 2009 Rapid moved its entire operation into the former John Lewis Building located at Williamson Square, right in the heart of the city centre ... We have now fully refurbished over 100,000 sq ft "

So obviously a completely fly by night operation!

Fitted price is less than £200 above the retail cost of the boiler.

Whether it is possible to legally fit that boiler does not change the math so there is no flaw in the 'mathematical logic'.
