I am off to USA next week... 02 tell me that it will cost 25 p per text and £6 per megabyte for internet use.... totally ridiculous.

If there is WiFi will I have to pay?

How big is a megabyte?

Then don't use the phone. Your choice really.

As long as you have disabled roaming data and *PURELY* use wifi there should be no charge. Read your phones manual carefully how you disable data roaming on your handset

    1024 kilobytes, or 10240000 bytes.

What you probably meant is how much data can I use that constitues a megabyte. Well if you use email, anything up to a few hundred emails, depends if they are jsut text or have pictures in. Usually a MP3 Song comes in at the 3-4 mb in size.

Facebook surfing, again depends how many pictures you look at both as pictures and as embedded on web pages.
  • when you switch off data roaming, can you still send and recieve calls and texts??

If your phone is unlocked, buy a PAYG SIM in America.

    Agreed.
You don't even have to use your own phone buy a cheap one for <$10.
Recommend Virginmobile. Depending on how long you plan to stay and how many calls you envisage making, I suggest THIS or THIS.

    HTH.

Yup buy a new sim or phone. I did that when i went travelling in Asia. Paying o2 rates abroad are just rediculous.
