I withdrew £20 from my building society, didn't even put it into my purse - crossed the street and paid it into my current account at the bank. The teller gave it back to me and said it was a fake.
I explained I'd just got it from the BS across the street two minutes ago. She said they were obliged to keep it for the police and not return it.
I went back to the BS and explained - thankfully they gave me another £20 note, plus they advised me to get a pen that shows up fraud notes.
Any idea where I can buy one pls?

If I'm not mistaken, the teller committed a criminal offence.roy_harper wrote: »I withdrew £20 from my building society, didn't even put it into my purse - crossed the street and paid it into my current account at the bank. The teller gave it back to me and said it was a fake.0 -

Perhaps the Banks / Building Societies should invest in these pens..:)0

Some have UV lights which can also be used to check notes.Perhaps the Banks / Building Societies should invest in these pens..:)
I found that my staff managed to hand out around 4 or 5 notes a year and retain a dozen or so in a medium sized branch. So that's around 150,000 transactions a year.
Typically the ones handed out were introduced to the branch by the cash centres.
It was a tiny problem within banks and building societies. I suspect it will still be the same.0 -

That was very trusting of them - did they phone the bank to check first?roy_harper wrote: »I went back to the BS and explained - thankfully they gave me another £20 note, plus they advised me to get a pen that shows up fraud notes. You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...:cool:0 -
you can buy those pens from booker wholesale at the paying desk. i've got one of those pens as I checked quite a few £50's and £100's I had a few weeks ago, now there all in the bank. I would advise getting one and there only a few quid.0
