cheque and no bank account

My son, because of previous debt problems doesn't currently have a working bank account. He is about to receive a refund of NI payments in the form of a cheque. Is it possible for me to pay this in to my bank account if he signs the back of the cheque ? His surname is the same as mine but his initial is different.
Any help appreciated.

If the cheque is crossed then no. He should open a basic bank account and lodge it there0

The High street cash-cashing places will cash it for a fee, but they require all sorts of ID etc. Far easier to open a basic bank account which will be useful for the future anyway."If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

I don't know, but I would assume that an alternative to a cheque made payable to your son could also be arranged directly with HMRC if he doesn't fancy any of the above options.0
