Shouted at by shopkeeper

Hi, I have just had a walk round town and went into an antique/junk shop, saw an item I liked and picked it up looking for a price, none on it but shopkeeper heard me place it back on glass shelf and came into the room asking me what I wanted. I said how much are these? She said £15. I smiled and said "Oh sorry too dear for me". She shouted "they are not too dear, you won't get them any cheaper anywhere else" and stormed off, I was rather stunned but continued to browse when she came back in and shouted "if you want everything for 50p you better go to a car boot sale". I was just about to buy a little delft plate for a friend but quickly left the shop.

The item I picked up wasn't breakable so I couldn't have damaged it looking for the price and I didn't say it was too dear as such but too dear for me, as much as I would have liked it I couldn't justify spending £15 on myself today. I am a mild mannered mouse (honest) and I came home shaking. Obviously I won't darken her doorstep again and I am busy melting wax to make an image and stick pins in it!! BUT WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE??

  • It seemed like a good idea at the time, letting the mentally disturbed run shops....
    :)
I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.
  • How rude!
I would have told her that her stock was far too low-brow and tacky for me to even consider making a purchase. :D

I would have said "with an attitude like you've got lady, you'll be lucky to sell anything".

The woman is obviously not a very good sales person.

Next time you go into a antique/junk shop and you see something you like but it's too dear, say to them, "oh, I really like that, but have only got £.....on me" or "what's your best price on this" they may accept it. It's worked a couple of times for me!

I would have pulled out a HUGE wad of cash, and politely asked, "can you recommend a good antique shop with a nice friendly attitude, where I can blow this money?".

I would have not so politely shouted "!!!!!! you old crone" and left.

Then I'd vent on here, and name the shop in the title hehe
  • How nasty! And of course you won't ever go in there again when you do have £15 to spare. Sounds like one of those shops that could be on that TV programme on how not to run one. Poor you.
    Grocery Challenge £114.22/ £110
  • Personally I would name and shame on here too

I'm expecting Richard Gere and Julia Roberts to walk in any minute ...

Big mistake, huge ... I have to shop now! ;)
    Gone ... or have I?
