BT Vision and Sky at the same time?

Hi there,

A bit of background first, I currently have Unlimited broadband and landline packages with BT, and a TV package with Sky.

I phoned BT for something else yesterday and they guy told me that I would be able to get BT Vision as well as the original package for £3 less that I am already paying (although there is a 3 month period where it's even cheaper). I agreed to sign up for it after ensuring that I could change my mind, I apparently have up to 10 days after the equipment arrives to change my mind.

However, I have just clicked that BT Vision obviously won't include Sky 1 - one of the only channels we actually watch! I'm happy to keep Sky aswell (as there is no overall cost increase) BUT can you run the two systems together?

Has anyone experienced running both BTV and Sky on the same TV?

TIA,
x

Yes, you can, you just use different inputs to feed your TV. No different ot having say Freeview and Sky on the same TV.
How can there be no overall cost increase if you have to subscribe to both services?
After you get BT Vision though you'll probably want to try and exercise that cooling off period if you can...

  • Just remember that BT Vision is essentially just the normal Freeview channels fed from your aerial with their On Demand content. They don't provide the subscription channels except some of the Sports channels which come down your broadband connection from their TV over IP network.

    Hi, thanks for replies.

We already have Sky so already paying the £18 per month for that. We are currently paying BT approx £42 a month ( I know, it's bleddy extortionate - the annoyance of living in a flat in this backwards town!) for the phone and broadband packages and this new deal is apparently a package that they are doing which works out at £39 a month. It involves a contract extension of 6 months.

I must admit I'm not totally sold on BT vision (it's my other half who watches telly, I prefer to be online) but if it saves a bit of money I thought it would be worth a go, and as you say if it's crap I can use the cooling off period. Is it really rubbish then :p

Good to know I can have them both though.

    Cheers

Why does living in a flat in any town limit your choice of phone of BB providers?-you have a choice of hundreds, and almost all of them cheaper and better than BT.
Why not just change ISP to save money, and avoid taking out an 18m sub to a service that you don't want and probably won't use?
And be aware that if you use the on -demand side of BT Vision then that will eat up the bandwidth from your internet connection if you are online at the same time.

It's more the town than the flat... we are too far from the exchanges for a lot of providers, truct me when I was looking for the original deal I tried a few different ones, rang them up, tried that Sam website thing (Can't remember the proper name but I'm sure you know the one).

There's just not much around here!

What are your LLU options? Even if there are none, you are not restricted to BT-there are hundreds of non-LLU providers. And all those supply your internet via the same local loop, so if BT can give you broadband, then so can they.
Since you last researched it, ADSL2+ has come along and may have extended the reach/speed from your exchange a bit.
