How do I switch from Vodaphone sim-only to Tesco sim-only?

I am currently using a Vodaphone sim-only package for £10 a month but I have seen that Tesco do the same thing for £6 a month. I've gone to their site and put this sim in my shopping basket but what do I do when it arrives please? Do I have to have my migrating code and if so where do I find this? Perhaps there will be instructions with the sim when it comes but I don't want to take the chance that there aren't.
Your advice appreciated, thanks.

I take it you want to keep your existing number? If so, call Vodafone and ask for your PAC (porting authorisation code). They will give you instructions on what to do to close your account.
When the PAC arrives, call Tesco and give them your PAC.
About 48 hours later, both your Vodafone and Tesco SIMs will be disconnected. Shortly after, your Tesco SIM will come back to life, (you may need to turn the phone off and on a few times), with your number transferred. Note that in some circumstances it takes up to 24 hours before the number port is fully complete.0 -

I'd think they'd tell you to call CS, the stores don't have any way of generating the pac. It's done by a dedicated dept at Voda.0 -
Is the phone sim-free/unlocked? If not, it may not even accept the Tesco sim.If I've helped you please show your appreciation by using the "Thanks" button

I don't think its locked. It has a vodaphone sim at the moment but only with the monthly rolling contract for £10.
Since my last email I thought I would buy a Tesco sim card and follow your directions. Imagine my horror after giving my credit card details, to find that this purchased sim has its own number. Obviously I don't want to change mine so it looks as though I am £6 down now. Nowhere did it say it would give you a new number and it asked for my existing one so I thought it would re-use that. I tried ringing the helpdesk number but it just rang out as it was lunchtime. Rats.0 -

Each sim has a number you need to port your existing number to the new network.
If your existing phone came from a network then the phone may be locked to that network . You need then to call your network to get it unlocked .

'imagine my horror'
Don't you think that's an awful over-reaction! The SIM comes with a number so that you can use it until you port in your existing number at which point it will be replaced by your existing number.
You are making this much more complicated than it need be.0
