A & L rejection and alternatives?

A friend recently applied online for a Premier Direct Current account, but got a quick rejection saying that they couldn't offer her that one, but would let her have a current account.

I guess this rules out the referral for both of us, which would have been nice, but, more importantly, she wanted a bank account that would offer internet facilities, with a debit card.

Would it be worth her while applying direct to an A&L branch, rather than online?

Otherwise, can anyone recommend another bank? She doesn't want to switch her wages to the new one straight away.

Thanks.
Debbie

It's not necessarily the result of credit scoring. For example, you would be rejected if you put down an income that equates to less than the required minimum monthly funding.
  • true - but what i was getting at was don't apply for the same account again as they will be credit scored again - multiple searches

Hmm, not sure 2 searches is going to have much more of an impact than 1, but point taken.

When my wife and I applied for our A&L Premier Direct accounts earlier this year we were each searched twice by A&L. We applied for the Barclays £100 loophole accounts at the same time and they also searched us twice.

Neither of the above seemed to affect our credit ratings.

I too was rejected a few weeks ago ( I was furious) . I'd applied to the branch, and went back in,it turned out that the rejection was because they had somehow got my address as BFPO ( we're on the electoral roll here). The branch appealed on my behalf and the decision was overturned.

So ask for their reasons and talk to he branch

    Hope that helps

Thanks for all the replies. My friend will be asking why they rejected her original application when the paperwork comes through. I'm not sure why they'd offer a normal current a/c and not the direct one. We'll see.

  • I too got rejected by A&L this week. I can't see it has anything to do with credit rating as i never been overdrawn. The only thing is i have only lived in my recent address for 1 month but was at previous address for 22 years. Shall be going in to discuss this weekend.

But you did not get rejected - what I was getting as is they may apply elsewhere who will see multiple searches in a small amount of time

    You're missing my point RS1. :)

When we applied for the Barclays accounts, they didn't know whether we'd been accepted or not for the double-searched A&L accounts, because the accounts hadn't yet been reported to the CRA's.

Also, we were both accepted within a month for further credit cards with other providers, who would all have seen the double-searches for the current accounts that were still not being reported to the CRA's.

This is why I said "Neither of the above seemed to affect our credit ratings."
