Connecting Sky to phone line?

Hi,

I know the Sky box is meant to be connected to the phone line, but when the installer came he didn't even mention it and I didn't think about it until after he'd gone. It's been 4 months now and while it doesn't seem to be affecting anything we are interested in some box office movies so want to connect it up.

We only get TV from Sky - our broadband is from another company.

Exactly what do I need in order to connect it up? What wire (with what kind of jack) and where on the Sky box does it go? Googling doesn't seem to help very much, lots of conflicting advice!

You should have received a telephone cable with your Sky Receiver.

The socket is the same as the one on the far right of the bottom picture.

The latest HD boxes do NOT come with a telephone cable - only a power cord and HDMI cable.

Yeah, there's nothing in the box that we aren't already using.

Thanks for the info on the socket - now just need to make sure what kind of wire/jack?

RJ11 at one end, normal telephone socket at the other.

Something like this will do.

Not true, I had Sky HD fitted last Friday... power, HDMI & phone cable

Well, we had it fitted in June and it didn't come with one.

It is provided as part of an installation but the installers provide the phone cable (and often make their own if socket is a distance from the box) - it no longer comes in the box from the manufacturers.
