Inf are pretty safe (except Ghurkhas). I'm in recruiting and half of our target this year is inf. Most regiments are undermanned at the moment.

Spoke to someone who knows someone involved in the cull (can't mention names but very good source). They aren't using it as a time to get rid of the dross. Some good lads in the bracket will go. If they get rid of all the dross the remaining good lads won't be able to leapfrog to become the future WOs/ RSMs. Seems a bit strange but I can see the logic. Be ready for some surprises when the brown letters start getting dished out. There will be some who you think shouldn't survive getting kept on.

Last time they did it (early 90s?), they got rid of a load of good youngish thrusters and now you see people at certain ranks and think "how the !!!! did he get promoted?", well they got rid of everyone else and had no choice but to promote him! God I love good planning :rotfl::D

Unfortunately no one knows the answer to that question. A frustrating answer but all that I can offer as no one knows what the next three tranches will bring.

DIB 2011/71 was released yesterday. It states that the Tranche 2 fields for redundancies have now been delayed until early 2012, subsequent tranches are also likely to be delayed.

The reason they've given for the delay is:

The Redundancy Programme was established against the baseline given in SDSR. Detailed work has continued since to refine the overall position, and announcement of those fields making up Tranche 2 of the programme is being delayed to ensure the broader impact of Defence Transformation is taken into account so that the Armed Forces will be the right shape and structure, with sufficient, capable and motivated personnel for the future.

OH is safe as well. Looks like this will be the last round of redundancies for RAF and RN so fingers crossed for everyone
