San Diego, LA & San Franciso trip plans

I have a list of events that i would like to do once i get flights arranged, but before i go ahead and make the flight bookings these are the events that i would like to take in whilst away, the bad thing is they are split up and down the coast. I have not booked hotels either but will either be booking hiltons (hh member) or using priceline. Also i will have a hire car.

arrive 19/10 - would be about 1830 but would be likely heading straight to bed - perhaps book hotel in anaheim?
20/10 tour round la then back to anaheim for a concert at the house of blues in anaheim @ 1900
21/10 apart from disney (which iam not fussed about?) could you spend a day in anaheim?
22/10 la lakers are playing in san diego @ 1830, dont know if its worth travelling for, (distance and time)thoughts?
23/10 free day
24/10 free day for both the 23 & 24th had thought of driving up to san fran, but i see its a fair distance for driving, would it be feasable to drive up, stay the 2 nights then fly back so iam in anaheim for the ducks game?
25/10 Anaheim Ducks vs. Edmonton Oilers in anaheim @ 1905
26/10 la dodgers would be playing a world series game, no time scheduled
27/10 was thinking this could be a shopping day
28/10 flight home or could travel the following day

the basketball game on the 22/10 is not a big problem if i didnt go, this would save me a bit more of travelling and perhaps i could spend this time heading to sf and enjoying the trip on highway 1

do you think i am trying to do too many things for the time, also if i was able to get the flights would i be best flying into orange county rather than lax?

on another thread i found information for a company that rents "performance cars" however then only rent in vegas and san diego, anyone know of a company (la area or airports) that i could rent a honda s2000. I drive one here so would be nice to drive the same car

my head i feel is hurting over all this:rotfl:

Lakers in San Diego on the 22nd is an exhibition game so goodness knows who you might get to see play.
Instead of the Duck-Oilers game, the Ducks play the LA Kings on the 22nd - nothing like local rivallry!

The Dodgers and Padres both lost in the first round of the baseball playoffs so if you want to catch a meaningful game you would be left with the Oakland Athletics and if they happened to be at home when you hit SF then expect to pay a fortune for a ticket!

Football season is in full swing and with the Raiders playing so badly might be able to pick up a ticket for their game (if at home) - otherwise choice of a few others closer to LA

Highway 1 is usually best driven north to south. Flight up ,drive back?

There is more han enough to do in south Cal for a week or 10days. Advising someone really depends on whether you ever want to go back agian or not! If not then stuff the shopping and get up/down the coast!

thanks for the information about the baseball, as you said i would rather goto a game that has some meaning to it. a local match for the ice hockey that sounds far better

will get looking at costing the flight up to sfc and picking up a hire car for the journey back

on looking on that nice place google i see a lot of folk recommend spending a night in montery on the way to la, anyone spent the night here?

have stayed in montery twice, both times in motels as was driving up and down on highway 1. is a nice place usually with quite a few things going on depending upon the time of year. see what is happening around the dates you are looking at because it may be advisable to book a room as there is not massive amnts of accomodation and is generally not mega cheap. if you like seafood there are some decent and reasonable restarants by the waterfront

also carmel is nice (quite kitsch but interesting) it is only a few miles from montery. also look at half moon bay, although this is a bit further north just below sf

Heading south from SF to LA, Monterrey is not too far at all. Plenty to do for a few days in the area. Monterrey itself is worth a look along with Carmel and if you are a golfer, Pebble Beach (plus Poppy Hills, Spyglass hill etc). 17 mile drive is definately worth the entrance fee. South of Carmel - region they call Big Sur is fantastic. In Monterrey we just used a bog standard matoel and it was fine - something like a Best Western
  • Hearst Castle is also worth conidering a visit if you are driving Big Sur.. San Diego is lovely - we did the Wild Animal Park (as opposed to the Zoo) and really enjoyed it. Took a trolley down to Tijuana - pretty grim place but wanted to say we had ' been to Mexico'. In San Diego, check out the Hotel del Coronado - it's where they filmed Marilyn Monro in 'Some Like It Hot'!! I recall a cool Mexican restaurant near there called Miguel's, serving ace food and a wicked Margarita.

San Diego to San Fransisco is about a 500 mile drive.

when I drive up from LA to S F I always have a night at Monterey, sometimes stop of at Solvang a Danish style village on the way up, at Monterey you could visit the aquarium which is very good, only ever been to a basebal in the states which was okay if you understand the game and the last time I was there the Ice hockey season was cancelled
Anyway theres more than enough to do in the time you have I'm sure you will love it

The aquarrium is a great place to spend some time. When we drove up from LA (yuck) to the Nappa Valley, we stayed at San Luis Obispo - what a fantastic example of little town America - especially if you stop when the Farmers Market is on.

I booked a normal car through Hertz (use Quidco) and got upgraded to a Nissan 350Z, worth a try...

Even though I booked my flights through Opodo have a play with www.aa.com can work out very cheap.
