Do not write these places off just yet. Remember, we will need bases for the 2 Armoured Brigades coming back from Germany. There is no way they are going to build new bases so guess where they will go?

So is there any hope for Kinloss? Not when a couple of Infantry Battalions turn up and show the locals how lucky they were with whatever problems the Crabs generated!!!!!

Spent 5 years at Kinloss, the best tour of my 25 years service! A great place to bring up your kids not always appreciated by Southerners until they'd been there.

Same here mate,I was there from 85 to 88 on NLS & in the Armoury, great times. One of the top eggs I worked with spent his entire RAF career up there until he killed himself shortly after leaving..

    RIP Stevie.

First Minister Alex Salmond will be joined by the three leaders of Scotland's other main political parties in a march and the rally calling for the RAF base at Lossiemouth to be retained in the UK government's ongoing strategic defence review.

  • For anyone interested, there is a protest march and rally to fight against the possible closure of RAF Lossie on Sunday 7th March, 2pm, at the gates of the base. There are 4 free buses leaving Lossie Green in Elgin at 1pm, and there will be signs en route for offical parking.

I hope you don't mind me reposting your thread on E-Goat on the RAF Lossiemouth SDSR thread?..

Sorry, have just seen this! I wouldn't have minded at all! It was a great turn out yesterday - police estimate is 7000! A peaceful protest, with a really good atmosphere:j There was loads of press coverage on sky, bbc and itn yesterday and all over the net too. Just hope it makes a difference.

let's face it, with the tonka fleet going down to 5 sqns (around 85 ac inc the OCU), they can all fit neatly into Marham. Why keep Lossie as a RAF base?? If it's not shut, it'll be given over to the returning hordes from germany. MAy not be what people want to hear, but this is the reality post-SDSR. As for kinloss, it was only being kept open for the MRA4, which is officially binned, so guess what ?? the rest of the hordes from germany will probably end up there. Even if MRA4 wasn't binned, they could all have fitted into Waddo anyways....

So the role of the Royal Navy is drugs busting operations in the Carribbean? I live and learn I thought they were for the defence of the nation. I always assumed the police and Interpol were responsible for drug operations

Perhaps we should expand the Navy and set a few patrols off of Cuba?

A fair few drugs coming here from America as well so I here, lets get a few aircraft carriers over there....oh thats right, we don't have any :rotfl:

Have you done a WIGs deployment BLT?
