Will those migrated from IB to ESA be put on income based or cont.based ESA
In light of todays announcement this is perhaps very important.

As far as I can work out all IB claimaints will go onto CB-ESA. Anyone claiming IS in leiu of IB will go onto IB-ESA.
  • and those who get IS as a top up along with IB?

do you know i'm actually not sure, presumably they will still receive this or premiums will be added to the ESA to top it up to the minimum amount.

This is something I don't understand yet. What I mean is I was on IB for a few years, then out of the blue I received a letter stating that I had been placed on Income support - with any IB entitlement included.

Therefore, I don't know what exactly I am on if you understand me. However, I did receive a letter a few months ago - title was 'INCAPACITY ASSESSMENT', which stated that I met the threshold of incapacity.

Are you in the same situation?

Don't forget that anyone will only transfer from IB/IS to ESA provided the ESA medical is satisfied first.

I would have thought that since IB is Contributions-based then that is what they would go on....

....but only for a year maybe? Ad then maybe not qualify for Income-based.... in the light of today's announcements.

My word, that is devious if so (and I'm the one always knocking down conspiracy theories).

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Every correspondence I get from them stating changes to benefit the heading is always - about your income support. Then at the bottom of the letter it states any IB you may be entitled to is included.

All the time I have been reading this forum I haven't come across anyone bringing this up.
  • earlier in the year i read a 100 page document produced by the previous govt which when boiled down suggested 2 things 1)that transfers would be to income based and 2)no one would see any reduction in benefits until 2020(transitional relief)
i now suspect that this govt have re-written both those decisions?

My OH is in the same position, when he was first unable to work he got Invalidity Benefit then it changed to Incapacity Benefit. Then because this was below "the amount the government say you need to live on" it was topped up with Income Support. All letters now come from Income Support and when they list his income/what he's entitled to the Incapacity Benefit is included. He does still get forms to fill in from Incapacity Benefit department.

When are people on Incapacity Benefit being moved over to ESA?
