Good for you, they deserve to be well looked after.I started off with 2 little ones in a tank.Which of course they outgrew. Then they outgrew that and i got given some that weren't wanted ..............then we moved into a house and a pond was dug, then we got some more...then they outgrew that pond.............

oh dear you can see where it could all lead! However since yours are not the common type, you will not need a bigger tank once you get them set up properly from now on.

I now have 2 large ponds and over 100 fish.Glutton for punishment you might say.I also have a tropical,4ft tank with 2 catfish almost 20 years old.

am back again for yet more advice if you don't mind.:)

The filter the guy gave me seems to have given up the ghost :(
Its internal and no longer has bubbles coming out of it, no matter what I do I can't get it going. He had attached a tube to it and said try blowing in it to get it going but no joy, pretty certain its this one here or very, very similar. The fish seem ok, no gasping or swimming up top to catch a breath.

Anyway, any tips for gettnig it going again or can anyone recommend a good internal filter for cold water tank?

Oh dear, the filter is the lifeline of your fish and if it stops working you could be in trouble.I had a jewel filter in my tank when it came but it didn'ttlast long,i don't reckon much to them.i think the best thing to do is go out and get one asap. You need a powerful one as you are overstocked in that tank and i would recommend you leave the pump running even if you can't get much in the way of force coming out.It will keep the bacteria alive in there ready for the new filter.

When you get one ,install it and run it alongside the old one for a day or so.Then remove old one and put some of the filter material into the new one if you can,or at least squeeze it out as much as possible into the tank beside the filter.

I've always found the fluval filter the best make.if you get the fluval 4 it will be ok for when you get your bigger tank.Do you have a local shop where you can buy one today?

That's something anyway.i am looking around the sites for you for next day delivery.

Just thought, don't put in the carbon pad,you won't need it.Instead pack in as much as you can of the mature filtration material from the old filter, straightaway.Never mind about running both. This will get it going nicely.Add filter feed and only feed sparingley. Then you should be ok and not get an ammonia spike in your tank.

I'll be back when i find a good price if you like.I have about 25 companies i can go to!

this company is just down the road from me and i buy most of my stuff from them.No postage to pay so i'm lucky!they are very reliable and good value.

    This is the filter http://www.watergardeningdirect.com/acatalog/Fluval-Internal-Aquarium-Power-Filters.html

but i shall keep looking yes here's a better price one http://www.everythingforpets.com/fluval_4_plus_internal_filter.pet/use.id.5.item_id.4293.dept.1180/

also here is the new fluval range which is cheaper ,at least from this site. Not used them before as they have only just come out but they look good. http://www.tropical-and-marine.co.uk/acatalog/Internal_Filters.html

looking further they are also the cheapest for delivery!

do you think the fluval u4 will be ok, will it not be too powerfulk for my current tank? Does that even matter?

Filter is still going just hardly any bubbles

The new fluval has a means of controlling the flow so you get as much or as little force as you want.If you are looking to upgrade the tank then the 4 is the one you need.Goldfish are messy eaters and produce a lot of waste. You need a good filter to cope as you have 3 fish.

I am putting in a request for new fluval 4 for christmas!
