Out of curiosity and also because it applies to my partners brother what if 1 person is self employed for 16 hours a week and the 2nd person currently claims incapacity benefit? Will the new 24 hour rule apply to them?

yes, they will have to work 24hrs

but im sure they can 'create' 24hrs work, so they reach the min entitlement to WTC, just as they are presently doing under the 16hr rule ;)

Does anyone know when the changes come in? I currently work 22 hours a week, single, 2 kids (1 disabled). How long have I got to find a job on 24 hours???

the 24hrs only applies to couples, not singletons

  • Would it be ok for ONLY one person out of that couple to work over 24 hours as the other person isn't able to work due to caring responsibilities?

    Thanks

if part of a couple, your joint hours have to be over 24. so yes, one person can work 24hrs and the other person nil. its only if you want to claim childcare help, that both of you have to be working

  • when does this change come into effect??
  • Does the rate for WTC then still go up at 30 hours per week worked?

For example is there a rate at 24 hours and another at 30 hours since currently there are two rates one at 16+ and one at 30+ hours worked

Doesn't affect me but more of a general question.
