Its not the windows serial number i need, its the actual laptop serial number.0

You may be out of luck unless you have a business-type Dell, where the serial number gets put into one of the BIOS areas. In all the other laptops I've seen, it's just on the sticker underneath. If it's new or you keep every piece of paper imaginable, it may very possibly appear on your purchase invoice.0

Is it a Dell, HP or Compaq? If so, you should be able to see the serial number by entering the BIOS setup screen. On my Compaq, it's under the System Information option.0

Try the FREE Belarc Advisor tool or alternatively the "Support" section of the manufacturer's website.0

Belarc is good, used it the other day to find OH's number which was warn off.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I refer the last two posters to the OP's #4 post...0

If it is a Dell, the Asset tag should be in the BIOS. Others may have it also set in the BIOS but you'll need to go hunting.0

I refer the last but one poster to this link:

especially item 5 under the "instructions"
I was well aware that the OP was asking for his computer's serial number NOT his Windows Product Key. Also, I offered an alternative suggestion if Belarc didn't reveal it.0
