How to find someone to clear my gutters?

Options
We moved house in April - I knew when we moved that the gutters needed clearing but didn't want to evict the nesting birds! Now I think the time has come. There is no way I am ever going up a ladder that high unless my life depended on it and my OH isn't much better - so what kind of tradesman do I need to talk to? Yell.com doesn't have a category for gutter clearing, it just sends me to general house cleaning which seems unlikely to be the same people.

If anyone's had it done I'd love to know a ballpark cost. We lived in a semi before & the neighbours did their own, and always did ours at the same time, lovely people! I have no idea if I'm looking at £20 or £200, it would be nice to have a clue before I get ripped off...

We paid a local handy man company £40 to do a large double fronted mid-terrace.

I knwo one of the neighbours paid £40 to the window cleaner to do it.

Other quotes we received from specialist gutter cleaners below:

"thanks for you enquiry, I am booked up for the next couple of weeks but hav had a look for a ocal contractor for you and can suggest you could try Allerton jet washing as they are close to you and are a reputable company after looking at their reviews - I would expect to pay £30 - £50 (we would charge £45 due to your location)"

    or

"The service we our offering is a full gutter clean and vacuum followed by a high level pressure jet wash of all the guttering system and all the fascias attached also any soffits and cladding are jet cleaned as well. Every down pipe is then jet cleaned and the whole guttering system is then rinsed and checked for rain water flow direction. The price for this £95
At present we our promoting a new product on the market called The Guttermole, This is like a giant spikey pipe cleaner that sits snuggly inside the gutter channel once it has been cleaned and it completely stops any leaves, twigs and debris from going into the gutter. It also deters the birds from nesting and landing in there. Whilst allowing rain water to flow freely through the system.
The Guttermole has a long life span and erases the need to clean out the guttering system once or twice a year as recommended. The Guttermoles are priced at £25 a box supplied and fitted. For 15m you will need 4 boxes.
Total price for all of the above is £195."

I found ours under 'Cleaning Services' in the Yellow pages. The first one I phoned was able to do the job, but you may need to phone round a few.

Maybe get recommendations from any neighbours who've had the same done already?

If threaders would add a postcode or area, I am sure the hundreds of traders watching these forums would offer to do the job in hand. Try it.... you never know.

Using a jetwasher to clear gutters is barmy. The carp goes absolutely everywhere, over your house and garden, over the neighbours house, garden, car etc. Totally off-the-wall.

Yellow pages or get your window cleaner to do it - but find a way of ennsuring they HAVE done it and not just say they have.

    Cheers

I know a guy who is a builder. He told me that any local builder would do it. Obviously the price would depend upon the builder.

Easy job to do I do my own, its a good investment getting a ladder £80+ and I saved around £500 in 3 years with painting house and twice doing gutters

I hate going up ladders too but I dont like spending money on things if I can do it myself

I just basically sweep much along guttering to a end and then scoup it up with hands into plastic bag. I mainly just get old bits of roof tiles off. Dont get leaves as they are down wind of the house so dont blow up

I dare say a window cleaner may but must I see now dont use ladders but poles

My mum asked her window cleaner if he wouldn't mind doing it.

He umm'ed and ar'ed about it then said. Sure, but it will cost you £3!!

My mum gave him a tenner for the trouble!! She gets him to do it every few months now when he comes round!
