Oil Delivery Question

Options
Looking into installing an oil central heating system from scratch within my rural property to replace the old electric storage heating system.

After having surveys carried out by numerous companies they have all stated the oil tank will need to be situated within our back garden & the only access for oil deliveries will be through our residentail garage.

Has anyone had any expirences of oil being delivered to a tank through a residential garage\outbuidling as some locals in our village have told me that some drivers will refuse to fill tanks via a residential garage\outbuidling.

I have contacted some local & national oil delivery companines & had a mixed response & do not want to invest if I end up not getting oil delivered.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

To be honest ask your supplier when you choose one - ours walks through the chickens to deliver ours and I have never ever had an issue. Bless them they have delivered in the snow when no one else could get through.

If you live in a rural area then the likelihood is that you are a little restricted on choice anyway, we live in a rural area and pay a little more per litre of fuel for a reliable delivery rather than the cheapest we can get and hope they bother to turn up!

If it is a normal garage ie concrete floor & a door out to the back where the tank will be situated, no problems.
The problem will start if you stop using it as a garage & start to use it as part of your living accommodation, putting floor tiles or carpet's down, installing radiators & using it as a utility room, that's where your problem will start.
The oil companies won't take the risk however remote that a hose will burst whilst going through a property.
if i had known then what i know now
  • The biggest consideration is access. If someone is at home all day then there will always be someone to open, unlock, the garage. If there is no one home then this could cause problems. Just something to bear in mind.
