Who is affected?
All Britons under the age of 57 on 6 April this year will have to wait until they're 66 before they get their pension.

Why does it mention 2020 if it is actually 2019?'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
Take it from me our generation will never ever get our state pension because every time it gets nearer and nearer they will move the goal posts once again. There is five years difference in ages between myself and my hubby and we were due to retire within a few months of each other,he at 65 me at 60.Then it was going to be me getting it at 65 by which time he would be seventy before I started claiming it.
Now because I was born in 1956 I now have to wait until I am 66 before I get it...We all have to remember, there is a generation of woman who never worked when they got married as it wasn't the done thing.Father earnt the money and the wife looked after the house and kids so she never paid any tax or NI contributions so someone has to pay for their healthcare as they are all living to well into their twilight years thanks to the NHS pumping them all with various drugs to keep them alive longer.
I also have friends and family who only ever worked part time while they were raising their kids and they only paid the married womans stamp which wasn't the same as the full stamp that I paid and as they were only working part time they didn't earn enough to pay tax but still had the same benefits from their Dr's, Dentists and Hospitals if they were evere ill or needed operations....
And what about all the Ex pats living in the hot countries that are claiming fuel allowance from this country. If they stopped that then that would be another few billion pounds the goverment would save...0 -
From ThisIsMoneyWhy does it mention 2020 if it is actually 2019?
and from ThisIsMoneyAll Britons under the age of 57 on 6 April this year will have to wait until they're 66 before they get their pension.
I think we will have to wait until the govt website updates to get the truthThese benchmarks are set to rise so that all Britons born after 6 April 1954 will have to wait until they're 66 from 2020.

There seem to be conflicting answers to exactly when all this kicks in and typically my age seems to fall in the middle of all this. I was born March 1954 so will be 65 in March 2019 so do I pick my pension up at 65 or 66? Does anybody have a definitive answer yet ? I am male by the way.

Totally Confused now - I was born 10th May 1952
Will I retire at 65 or not?
I take it I will so many backwards and forwards movements.
From the Telegraph:
Anyone under the age of 57 at the start of the current tax year in April will be affected by the move.
And from Thisismoney:What we know for sure is this: all men and women under 57 will have to wait at least until 66 before they can retire. All Britons born after 6 April 1954 will have to wait until they're 66 from 2020.

I was born March 1954 so will be 65 in March 2019 so do I pick my pension up at 65 or 66?
Extract from the Spending Review document:The State Pension Age will then increase to 66 for both men and women from December 2018 to April 2020.
And from the Chancellor's speech:From 2016 the rate of increase will be three months in every four rather than the current plan of one month in every two.
On that basis, you will receive State Pension at about age 65 and 2 or 3 months.0 -
And hopefully there will later be gender equalisation, with an older state pension age for women than men, so they both have the same portion of their life in receipt of payments.0

I was born July 53 (female) and it looks as if I shall have another two years to wait, aged 65 instead of 63 at present. Also, I do not think that everyone is aware that the winter fuel payment and free bus pass also rises with womens pension age. I know people who are still under the impression they will receive these benefits at 60.0
