I feel for his family and friends. My best friend hung herself and even though you do move on (you have to), the pain is always there.April Grocery Challenge £81/£1200

so sad....
DrFluffy im sorry to hear that! Its so heratbreaking to think that these people see suicide as the only option to sort there problems out. So Tragic...0 -
Thats really sad to hear...my cousin tried suicide too cos of money worries-luckily she's fine now.
The banks and universities are as bad as each other- well at least my uni is, not naming which.
Freshers week you are treated like fresh meat and they are the vultures-buy this buy that before the offer ends and blah blah blah
If you havent got alot of saving you have to be very careful-the first student loan is eaten up by the rent too
HSBC is one of the worst banks for students, dont know how many times I've had fraud on my card, they didnt seem that bothered as it wasnt a large amount ( about 80 pound) luckily I didnt desperately need the money at the time- but it could of easily been the last couple of pounds I had in the world...
When you join they give the dumbest gifts of free cd's instead of wise gifts like free rail or coach cards like Natwest or offer to buy your course books.0 -
Very sad indeed to hear this, people should realise that no matter how bad things get that there are always people who offer help
best wishes to you all!

very very sadly this is not an isolated incident

and it will be repeated and repeated due to people wanting to have a better lifestyle and banks not checking properly on applicants and then getting nasty when it blows up in their faceDebt of £6300 cleared in 5 years, now ZERO0 -
I have to say I am not surprised about this bank. I know how they respond about disabled access to branches claiming financial constraints although they make millions in profit. They are concerned about one thing only money and have no moral or social consience.0

You have to feel sorry for the lad's family and friends. But to hang yourself for the sake of £1200. Why?!0

To be honest, I think the lesson to come out of this is nothing to do with HSBC, it is more awareness of what is available is AGAIN a problem for many consumers. his mother worked for a bank, a different bank, surely she should have acknowledge £1200 was nothing. maybe she did.0

In relation to post #10, not the OP
I love HSBC. While I've had many, many problems with others - esp Gnatwest, I've never had any unsurmountable issues with HSBC. Including them being incredibly flexible when money was getting tight...
Goes to show how patchy banking services can be. But I wouldn't be so blinkered to assume that, because I had issues with bank chain A, everyone else in the world would do to, so should not approach them when investigating student accounts etc...April Grocery Challenge £81/£1200 -
To be honest, these stories make me just a little bit cross
No-one ever knows why a person takes their own life. Even if they leave a letter, it doesn't tell you everything that was going through their minds when they did the deed.
The original story is also not particularly flattering to the parents .... I was left wondering what they had done to help him
Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac
