Can I recommend a good conditioning treatment. You get it from Sallys
proffesional hair supplies.
It is by Proclaim and is just called Cholesterol. It is in a ginormous tub with a red lid. It was very cheap though I forget how much!
I am white and have very thick hair, which can be dry and brittle. If it gets long it grows quite curly, ringlet style (not a good look for 50+) so I keep it quite short as it is easier to manage.
I only shampoo once a week and a few times a week, I just wet it and put some conditioner through it and rinse.
Sometimes I rub a ten pence piece amount of conditioner through it after I have towel dried. Doing this I made a bottle of Redken last over two years!!
I never brush my hair and never use a hairdryer, it just seems better drying naturally.
Currently in our £1 shop, they are selling Schwarzkopf conditioners for dry hair. One was yogurt and coconut - lovely. I tend to grab about three of these for every shampoo I buy as I use a lot of it.
Another product I like very much is Umberto Gianni overnight balm - that really helps to nourish my hair too. Again about £4.00 so not wildly expensive.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Iarmy16, I have the cholesterol it is good I didn't think you could use it on your hair type, my dd has beautiful hair( she is white and has ringlety hair its beautiful but she hates it, its all the way down to her bum! but the frizz can be awful) that sounds like yours so she will be getting some of that put on tomorrow!
I love the sound of that overnight balm, I am taking my braids out tomorrow so will buy some of it in boots before I rebraid.
The thought of rebraiding is horrifying for me! It looks great but that will be monday all day braiding, I actually booked a day off work to do it............0 -

alisara that is the reason i stopped braiding my hair, the time, and cost - especially factoring in being off work. It is crazy when you think about it lol
I love the cholesterol conditioner too, also I use oilve and clove oil - it is green in a bottle, will post who by when i find my bottle ( daughter steals it) and it smells lovely, everyone comments on it. and it really moisturises my hair.0 -
Hey guys
Checking inace idea this thread
I've been natural 8 + years
I co-wash weekly, then deep condition at the weekend- either under foil cap or shower cap with hot turby towel(poundland!)
Mostly use very inexspensive conditioners - Sulphate free ones from poundland or 99p land
Moisturising I use - Avon conditioning balm(£1) then seal with castor oil ( regular from chemist) or grapeseed or coconut oil
Deep condition ... I am faithful to the olde Cholestorol (£2 and lasts months and monnnths) - If tresseme DC is on offer I will stash one away!!
Indian grocers great for cheapy coconut oil and hair powders - as a treat I use Amla or Henna once a month - £2 ish
Really cheap to look after my hair..and easy tooOU Law studentMay Grocery challenge£30/ £110 -

I have heard so much about this product and would love to try it but they dont sell it in my local Boots and I live in the middle of nowhere, well as far as shops are concerned anyway, also I would be interested in the olive and clove oil mentioned by knithappens, would you let us know where to buy it (online?) as well as what its called:)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -
I have b een straightening my bush (thats what DD calls it) into straight silky tresses for over 10 years, you would think it would have got the message by now:mad:
When I was younger (until I started straghtening) it was almost loose ringlets, but I think the constant straightening has turned the curl into a boufant bush:o
Anyway GHDs turn my bush into poker straight super silky hair. I do it bottom up, clipping it up & dropping it down a layer at a time - takes a while as my hair is also thick. But I really go over it, every single strand a couple of times & pull it hard. But hey it works:D
The only downside is I couldn't not straighten it now even if I wanted to as its not nice not straightened:(0 -

You would have to pay delivery, currently I think about £4.95 (?) but the tub is so huge it could be worth it especially if you buy in bulk.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Knithappens, I like the sound of the clove lotion stuff my only problem is I live in N.Ireland I have to buy everything on line. In saying that though Boots in Belfast and Superdrug sell Dark and Lovely and Olive Oil brand and this is only recently in the past 3 months. They are not the best brands but I can now buy chloesterol in boots!0

hi ladies, i dont shop online so am not sure if you may be able to get this at othewr stockists that you know, as I live in Manchester virtually every balck hair shop sells this so it is readily available, just checked on ebay and they have it on their http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_kw=best&_kw=organics&_kw=olive&_kw=clove&_kw=oil&_kw=therapy
I know there are some balck hair stockists that have shops on ebay, definatley worth a look on there.
it is called Africa's best Olive and clove oil therapy. And it lasts a long time, I use about a 5 to 10p amount rub it in my hands and then through the hair from root to tip, can also be used as a skin oil.
Puts a lovely sheen on the hair, but also absorbs pretty well too.0 -
Came on here a few days ago. I have coarse curly hair and it tends to be very dry so have tried just washing it with conditioner. I bought Lush light conditioner to wash it with and their deep leave in conditioner and I must say my hair is shining. These are not cheap but thought if I liked them I would ask for gift vouchers for Christmas. They use just pure natural ingrediants and the conditioner should last for months. Thanks for all the tips, great site.0
