    IMHO, that is sharp practice.

Every time we've had carpets fitted they have left the rubbish behind. I've never really thought about it and just disposed of it ourselves.

Also for them to take the rubbish away they would need a waste carriers licence

Carpet fitters NEVER take it away - they never have - its custom and practice.

Well that's rather a large generalisation! Can you back it up?

My usual carpet supplier/fitter actually has signeage on his van that old carpet disposal is part of the service along with moving furniture for access. However, when he recently fitted a new carpet for me the old stuff could not be taken away in the same van if new carpet was on that van. i.e. not now allowed to mix new and old (elf & safely) apparently.

Old carpet can have fleas and carpet beetles in it, so I would think that is why they do not mix the two. Last time we had carpet fitted they disposed of the old one. QT, are your carpets spun gold? £6.5k seems a lot to spend, though they all overcharge on the underlay which always ends up costing a fortune. You didn't get the £2.99 a metre deal at Carpetright I assume )).

We had the same problem..whole house was renewed and i was left with a massive amount of carpets..I went to the tip and was refused admission as i drive a 4x4 and was told i needed a permit as i could be trade...it was a Saturday and the council was closed.
no wonder you see places getting fly tipped when you have to jump through so many hoops to get rid of it all...
how anyone on the breadline can afford to tip rubbish i will never know as the local council charge £30 per item.. it must affect fly tipping..
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

No it ain't - its general practice although there might be a few exceptions.

  • ok im a floor layer and you do need a licence to dispose of rubbish and its also health and safety mixing old with new this is why we need prior notice to disposal as we need to make sure nothing is in the van (new material ) and also as its chargeable at £120 minimum charge to drop it at a waste disposal site for us.On another note 180 sqm cant be done in a day with 2 fitters for a good job you would be talking 2 days work or 3 days for 1 fitter as a rule i work out working in my own at 60 sqm prep and fit on my own for a day.
