Yes you do sand or rather scotch the plastic, as it needs to be ruffened up. He needs to use thinners to get rid of the back to black. I see no reason that the bumper needs to be painted more than once, a compatent sprayer would get it right first time!!0

he told me he wiped the bumper down with white spirit.
hmmmmmmmm.
what a mess this has turned into!0 -
Ok having had problems with a resprayed panel on a car I now know a fair bit.
Back to Black and similar products are a nightmare to remove because they contain silicone which makes adhesion to paint more difficult. However the usual symptom is "fish eyeing" in the paint. You say some points have been sanded and others hadn't..that sounds like a botch job to me, if he starts sanding points I would expect the whole bumper to be done.
I would ask for either
a) The whole bumper to be sanded down and prepped properly (what I would have expected for the money in the first place)
b) Get them to buy a new bumper and spray that, if they are too incompetent to prep a bumper! (Ask for invoice as proof) *You can tell easily before they put the bumper back on, as the inside will be clean and new*0 -
right...picked the car up last night. the bumper is now completely smooth more or less, has bumps still in the creases and cracks but i guess that must be impossible to get out more or less.
all looks good so far but i will keep you posted if it starts to chip off again.
thanks guys!!!!
and dellboyuk i will be asking for a new bumper if this doesnt work this time.
and i certainly wont be recommending them to friends/family!!0
