Arrrrrrgggh vodafone!!

When I first got my vodafone contact (about 1 1/2 years ago) I was worried what would happen if I went over my minutes. I was told I could increase or decrease my contract by one 'step' a month, ie £5. I soon upped it by £5 as I found I was exceeding my allowance. However, I am really strugling for money now, and could really do with reducing it. Vodafone has since told me I can no longer do this as terms and conditions have changed, but I should have had a text telling me. I have had no such text and I feel mis-led, as I clearly stated my usage varies, but was told it was flexible. What can I do?

You are unable to downgrade on the newer YPL (Your Plan) tariffs which started this year.

You will have made a commitment to pay Vodafone a set amount each month for a minimum number of months and in return, you would probably have received a subsided phone and more minutes for your money.

If you started your contract 18 months ago, and you are on one of the older price plans, you should be able to downgrade your contract one step each month (£5.00), the lowest being £20.00. If you upgraded by £5.00 and you were previously on a lower tariff, you should be able to return to your original price plan, even if you are on a YPL Plan.

It may be an idea to check which tariff you are on.
  • I am on 'YPL 24PRM' however, as I said, 18 months ago I was able to change up £5 to include 300 extra minutes, maybe I can just remove this if it is a bolt on, even though it isn't showing as a bolt on. The other phone on my account is on a CTR price-plan. Don't know what this is!

CTR is an an older plan which you can downgrade.

The YPL Plans were only introduced this year and you have had your contract for 18 months.

Could be your price plan was changed to YPL when you added the extra minutes.

    Hope you get it sorted.

  • I have had a nightmare since, due to my mother's illness, exceeding my monthly 600minute tariff by 300 minutes respectively. I was charged over £200 in addition to my monthly payments! I called vodafone and they said that for £5... FIVE POUNDS! i could increase my minutes to 900.

When I asked why, if this was the case, had it cost me £190 extra for going over my limit? They had no answers. I asked if i could be released from my contract and was told it would cost me £370.00. Having had to give up work to care for my terminally ill mother that was out of the question. £200 may be peanuts to Vodafone, but it wiped me out financially and with no justification or reason given to the ridiculously overpriced minutes I used I am utterly frustrated and disheartened.

I asked for a copy of the original contract that I signed explaining these fees... ...it never materialised.

I sent a complaint and was told that Vodafone would clear my most recent bill for an additional 5 months contract extention (which would have exceeded the amount in monthly payments and hence was a pathetic offer)

I responded to their email (customer services email address) in early April. No response. I resent it a week later. No response. I resent it again last week. Still no response.

Having been a Vodafone customer for 12 years I am utterly dismayed at their lack of their responsive complaints procedures. There appears to be an attitude of ignoring valued customers hoping they will give up and accept unreasonable charges. It is utterly rude.

Luckily I am one customer who will continue to pursue the matter

I have emailed the CEO and Ofcom. Chances of a response?! I am not optimistic. We shall see.

    Shame.

The cost of calls out of your allowance would have been well published in the welcome letter or email which Vodafone would have sent you when your originally agreed to the contract and the terms and conditions. The cost of calls outside your allowance is also well documented on the website.

Vodafone have advised you that for an additional £5 per month, you would be able to increase your allowance by a further 300 minutes.

You have exceeded your agreed minute allowance and will now have to pay the charges.

Cant see what you are complaining about here.

Not sure they were brought in this year. I got the iphone 4 on day of release (June 24th 2010 I think) and I'm on a Your Plan Tarrif (YP2 is the code)
