New cable after new clutch...
I had a new clutch fitted on wednesday last week. Drove fine on Thursday and Friday morning, but by friday rush hour, it wouldn't go into 1st or 2nd gear! I had no choice but to set off in 3rd as I had a massive queue of traffic infront and behind, and a lovely guy in a big white van flashing and beeping me:mad: so as you can imagine the smell of burning!
I managed to get it to the garage that had fitted the new clutch and he said a cylinder had broken and he need to keep my car until Monday as it wasn't safe to drive...
When I picked it up on Monday, he said he had fixed it but I now need a new cable??? He didn't say much else as I picked it up late on Monday so I think he just wanted to get rid of me.
Does anybody know what he may be talking about? He said the cables would cost me about £100 but it's not something that needs doing straight away, although he didn't tell me when it would need doing either, so I'm now driving around thinking my car could break again at any point!:o

Did you have to buy the cable yourself and the £28 was the labour, or was that all in? The guy at the garage said I could buy the cable for about £100 (and they come in packs of 2 usually, even though I only need 1...?) and then he would fit it, but never gave me a price for that.
I don't know how many cables there are that could need replacing and he wasn't specific...0 -

The person clearly has no idea one minute a cylinder is broken then it needs a cable.they are either cable operated or hydraulic with cylinders they do not have both.
I am fairly certain the Aygo is hydraulic so you need to get more info off him before I can understand what he says needs changing0 -

Thanks. I will give him a call tomorrow and find out exactly what was broken, and what it needs...0 -

Sounds like he may be talking about handbrake cables as they are the only ones I can think of that could come in packs of 2.
A clutch cable if your car has one will not come in multiple numbers if need one you but one simple as that.
Should it be handbrake cables have both changed and not just the one especially as they apparently cone as pack of 20 -
hi CLG86, i suspect what the mechanic is on about is the gear selector cables which do on most small cars get very stiff due to the tight bends to manouvre round the engine bay.....however if this was the original fault then a clutch would not of been needed.
It could also be that when he put the gearbox back in and connected the cables they may be misaligned/not adjusted correctly have seen this many a time on other makes,... hope this helps:D0 -

I was thinking the same thing but it could be gear selector cables. However I do think the clutch change was probably a 1st guess and now the mechanic is chucking in all the possible solutions. This sounds like it could cost far too much as the original problem was not diagnosed correctly. . You've got a new clutch, now you need a new mechanic:AI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0
