Oh yeah forgot about that one mate lol0 -
If this is a car dealer then it's very unlikely they will accept American Express due to high charges.
Using masteracrd or Visa may well incurr a fee of around 2.5% at a lot of car dealers, so check what payment thods are accepted before assuming.
No point getting an AMEX card if they won't take it.
The last few replies are rather unhelpful.
You might think you are being clever and funny, but a newbie will not understand your humour and get quite confused.

Thanks for all of this!
I have a mortgage and have been approved for a £6k loan although am not ready to make the purchase yet so am wanting a card to have the flexibility as would not want to take the loan out just yet.0 -

And thank you lisyloo that is helpful! It's for dental costs. I won't be having treatment yet so just want to be prepared.0 -
Check what type of payment they take.
My dentist doesn't take any type of cards at all, only cheques
Yes I was shocked, I had to put a cheque in the post as I don't even carry a chequebook round with me. Luckily they've known me for years, so they were ok about me not having payment.
Again if they take cards, they may charge a fee and might not take AMEX.
You might also want to take a look at going abroad.
You might be able to get high quality treatment much cheaper or get a holiday included for the same price.
Obviously you need to check out quality and aftercare, but that's what the internet is good for.0 -

Thank you! Yes, have been looking at Budapest and India which have very competitive prices. I have never wanted a credit card beofre as I prefer to spend upfront with what I have but for something like this it's easier than saving for a long time!0 -

Be careful.
It all sounds ok in theory because you are assuming your income will keep coming in.
But what happens if you are made redundant or get sick and are on benefits.
If you aren't fully insured for redundancy and sickness then you may find it hard to make the payments.
You might easily find yourself paying 20% - 30% interest.
You could damage your credit report if you don't make payments on time, or simply find that you are struggling to only meet the interest and not make any headway into the debt.
Give some thought to what happens if you get made redundant or are sick or have an accident.
If you have dependents then you also need to think about death.
Lots of people get into trouble when their income drops because if you take on debts then you are effectively relying on future income.
I'm not saying don't do it, but have a think about the flexibility in the deal you take, the interest rates and getting some insurance.
So for example a 0% rate might sound fine, but at the end it might revert to 30%, so if you're in difficulty at that time then you're stuck with high interest rate.
Give it some thought because. Just beacuse it's easy doesn't mean you should do it.
There are alternatives as well. For example instead of waiting to save £6K you could perhaps wait until you have £2K and then only borrow £4K or something like that.
So think on these things.0 -

If you read the posts properly lazyloo you will see that we did give good advice which was to apply for credit card that will build up your history as the credit card newbie has no history.
Then people decided to give out silly advice telling him/her to apply for amex0 -

Oh yes I wasn't having a go at everyone :-) xx
But to suggest they get a private banking coutts card that costs £350 per annum and has a 53.9% interest rate is not good advice.
A newbie might get quite confused by what's advice and what is fooling about.0
