Play.com are useless! Don't bother with them

I used to use play.com but after a few late deliveries and lots of wesbite problems I stopped. I decided to give them another chance and bought a couple of DVD's. First one played fine, second was playing fine and then one episode on it wouldn't play - I tried it on 3 different players, it was definately the disc.
So I do all the online return stuff, go to the post office and unlike all the other interente companies play.com don't have freepost on returns so I pay the postage and send it back. Ihave indicated I wanted a replacement already. I ring them up yesterday to get the postage back and they say they will refund it.
I remembered I may have said the 4th speisode didn't play when it was actually the 5th so I check the website to see if they have the dvd and if its being replaced. I see "refunded" and the postage amount (wrong) so I ring up to check I am getting a replacment.
Well it took ages and the guy kept asking me questions, asking me the same thing again and again. Eventually he said I couldn't get a replacement as the item ahd been refunded - the postage was the refund! So I said I idnicated replacement on my form, I said heo the item was fautly and I followed all the instructions so I should get a replacement or refund. He goes away and I am on hold, eventually comes back and says something that it will only be £5 refund - less then what I apid. I said why and he could give no answer so I point out everything again and he finally says I'll get the full refund and it will come through in 3-5 working days.
I double check it will appear ont he website tomorrow as the postage refund has done so I know I will get the full amount.
I asked for his name in case it doesn't come through and I have someone I can say told me I would get my refund etc and he said it was "Billy" - unlikley with that accent, he wouldn't give a second name either (I really doubt it's billy and I be if I ring up an name him they wouldn't have a clue).
Bottom line is play.com are useless. They don't have a compliant procedure at all and you can't email them for help either you have to use their phone line where you can't understand what they are saying.
Avoid!!!!!

Play used to be good when it first started.
Since they were taken over.. it went downhill rapidly..
Never used since they "lost" my star trek blu-ray (despite the parcel tracking saying it had been delivered to them):exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -
Didn't know they had been taken over.
That explains alot.
I'm sticking to amazon and zavii or hmv and even ebay from now on.0 -
Yes agree they are rubbish!0

Ordered an item 12 days ago which was in stock and only notified today it had been posted !!!
Who owns then now?0 -
I used Play for 9 years and never bought DVDs etc online anywhere else, bought about 500+ items from them. The last 5 orders I placed all either arrived incorrectly, didn't arrive at all, and in some cases arrived without a DVD in the box!
Crappy returns system etc lead me to switching to Amazon.
Play should sort themselves out, used to the the best by far.Dogs have owners...my cat has slaves...0 -

Don't know who owns them now, but I do remember reading a while back that they had been bought over by someone else.
I tend to avoid them these days, unless they have something at a particularly good price. But generally I stick with amazon, never had a problem with them!:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0 -
I used Play.com. I have used them for 10 years. I find them prompt and efficient and when I have had problems with them they have resolved them.
However I shop on price and also use base.com, thehut, hmv.com and Zavvi. I find all of them to be very good too."There's no such thing as Macra. Macra do not exist."
"I could play all day in my Green Cathedral".
"The Centuries that divide me shall be undone."
"A dream? Really, Doctor. You'll be consulting the entrails of a sheep next. "0 -

I don't use them that often, like the previous poster I go on price, so I also use Amazon, The Hut or whichever is cheapest.
I have ordered a cd from Play though, placed the order on Sunday and got an email saying it was posted on Monday. Hoping it will come by the end of the week.Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.670 -
I ordered Torchwood Series 1 from play.com. It arrived and the box was damaged. So sent it back for replacement, paid the postage - got only a partial refund from the postage. They sent another one, didn't arrive after 2 weeks, so I asked for a refund, got the money back. But I will not use play.com for boxsets as I prefer Amazon's packaging - the cardboard, as it gives more protection. Although if something doesn't arrive from Amazon they use another company to send it out (in case a royal mail employee thinks look Amazon, I'll take that) so the packaging is only a jiffy bag.
One thing I use to like about Play is when you pre-order something it usually arrived a day or 2 before release!0 -
I can't even log on their website at the moment. The website is mega f'd up.0
