Broadband from Orange

I was looking for a new broadband provider as i felt mine was a little pricey so i looked on here at the best deals available etc.
I picked the orange broadband as i felt it met my needs and on the phone they told me that the max length of time my service would be down was 1 hour which was important to me as both I and my partner work from home.
It is now 12 days on and i still have no service. Despite spending over 4 hours on the 5p a minute helpline and numerous promises of "we will call you back to update you" which never happens. The Service from Orange is shockingly bad and switching to them is the worst thiing i ever did.
I have now mananged to get a MAC code out of them to switch again and they even managed to send me an invalid one of those first time round which meant i had to ask for a second one.
They even tried to threaten me saying if i left so soon i would be breachin the contract and would be billed.. until i pointed out that i oculd not be in breach of a service they had never provided me in the first place.
So despite looking a good deal at face value.. it has ended up costing me alot of time on helplines and no service for 3 weeks. I had to laugh though when i went on Oranges web site and read this
"Orange is committed to brilliant customer service"
Oh how we laughed.

If you need to call them again then call 0800 801080 free and choose options 1,4,1,2,2. This will get you through to Orange broadband from a landline without incurring any charges.0

Update on this one.. Orange keep e mailing me to tell me that they will be calling me tonight to update me between 5pm & 9pm but then surprise surprise.. no call. More apologies, more promises of phone calls but no action.
Avoid them at all costs!!!!!0 -
My daughter has just gone with them, I went round to get her connected to the Internet, insert the setup disk and it goes through the motions but the motions it goes through are if you are connecting using an Earthnet cable and I wanted to connect wireless.
So I ended up calling the help line, you guessed, I couldn't understand the guy on the other end, I spent most of the time saying, "Pardon, say again, I can't understand you, is there anyone there who speaks English?"
My daughter took over and was getting the instructions off him, then because he wanted us to connect using the Earthnet cable first we had to bring the laptop to the modem and forgot to plug it in the power, so course after a while the screen went black and the Laptop turned off, my daughter went mad after all the messing around this happened.
I know the guy was trying to help but why do these firms have this sort of thing when they must by now have enough feedback that people just can not understand and it gets annoying, I wonder if the bosses of these companies ever have this trouble?
I'm going back later for another try as my daughter had to go to work.0 -
Nobody is forced to use an ISP with offshore, so called help lines.
I would never even consider using one, least of all Orange ( read Lemon )..0 -

The cable you are trying to use is an Ethernet cable.
Get your internet connection working first by ethernet, then once you are online you can set up the wireless connection (for which you can get better help on here than from Horange). No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks, I called it an Earthnet sorry but you knew what I meant.
She is set up using the Ethernet cable it's the wireless bit now she needs to do.
The guy at Orange was instructing her to go in to the router settings then as I said above the battery went on the laptop,(my mistake not having it plugged in), then she had to give up.0 -
All you need to do is log into the router interface (the manual will tell you how) and got to the wireless settings section. Set up the wireless network (using WPA encryption not WEP) and log out. Then disconnect your Ethernet cable and try to connect by wireless. Select by name the new network you have created and enter the encryption code, you should then be connected.
The router may come with a default network set up, in which case you are strongly advised to change the defaults for your security.
Horange's 'tech support' is a waste of space, you'll manage far better just doing it yourself. But only if you are charged up first...No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks macman, I got the full details off the Net and printed them out, when I read them it was what the guy was telling us before we had to end the procedure, so hopefully we will be all right.0

Well I got the details off the Net, printed them out and went to my daughters to set it up again. I did as instructed but no wireless connection, so after a bit of fiddling myself still no joy so in the end I phoned the Calcutta help line.
After spending an age on the phone doing what the guy said which was everything the instructions said, then we changed the password 4 times but still no joy, he ended up saying he would have to seek advice and would phone back tomorrow, this is terrible, plus the phone call must have cost a small fortune too.0
