In that case, you are agreeing with DX2 - you receive CTC, which the OP does not mention at all.
When i said "not necessarily" in response to DX2's post what i was actually referring to was when DX2 said that something didnt seem right as the op is only receiving £20 working tax credit for 3 kids.
I was merely pointing out that it is possible to receive a very low amount of wtc but that this is normally subsidised with a higher rate of child tax credit.
Sorry if i didnt make it clear enough.
I do however think that things such as school dinners etc should be paid for from ctc as in my opinion this is the purpose of such benefits.0 -
wtc stops free school meals clothing grants and free school trips
Area can also stop them, not every county offers clothing grants and free or reduced school trips to those on benefits. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Where do people get the idea that uniforms and school trips are free on benefits there not. All mine get is free school dinners.0

In my area families on means tested benefits (not WTC though) get free school dinners which I imagine is the same everywhere? Some get a little help towards uniforms (£23 primary school or £28 high school, this is for a year and it comes in vouchers that have to be spent in certain approved shops and cannot be used for fashion items) they don't get any help with trips or outings.0 -
As a previous poster has already said , it all depends (or it must do?) on what area you live in.
For example i have never heard of the free school trips for children whose parents are receiving benefits.
I have however heard of the free school dinners and grants towards uniforms.
There is a girl who lives near me who's kids are both at high school , they are 12 and 14....this girl receives income support and so in turn would receive full housing benefit and all the other freebies single parents receive.
Now , please realise that im not slating single parents here...i am however referring to this one girl who i am posting about.......
she makes no secret of the fact that she does not want a job !
She sits at home all day doing nothing but drinking tea and watching day time telly !
If you even mention "work" to her she nearly has a fit lol . She openly states that she doesnt want to go to work and work (?) when she gets paid for sittting at home !
She states that she would only have to pay rent / school dinners / uniforms etc if she went out to work!
Ermmmmm yeah.....just like the rest of us i say !0 -
Joint income of £15,000 and only getting £20 WTC for three kids, something no right there.
entitledto.com says it'll be around £24 in WTC and around £140 ish in CTC.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked
50p saver #40 £20 banked
Virtual sealed pot #178 £80.250 -
I know a single mum who gets free school dinners because her 'assessable income for inland revenue purposes' is below £16k and she doesn't get WTC (because she doesn't work).
She doesn't work because her ex pays her £3k per month maintenance. She still qualifies for and claims free school dinners and I believe free instrument/music lessons.....
Now that is legislation gone mad !0 -

The 'grapevine' is working very well in your area it seems! For the record, she will only be claiming income support if she has a disability or is a carer, as her children are too old for her to claim as a single parent.
She is probably on JSA and at some point will need to start New Deal and will also have her HB cut, so I wouldn't worry.
If you aren't slating single parents then probably best not to mention how they receive all these freebies! The 'freebies' are related to the benefits, not parental status!0 -

If you re-read my post you will see the part where i say i am not slating single parents!
I didnt hear this information "through the grapevine" , i heard it directly from the mouth of the girl to whom i am referring !
Our children run around together and i was in her house just the other day and she told me what benefits she receives !
She claims dla for arthritis - high rate - as she is unable to walk very far....that is until it hits 6pm nightly when she walks her two doggies for 8 miles !
Now....you can say that i am "slating" if you wish but dont you think if it meant that much to me i would report her ?;)0 -

Per week!?
If it is, child tax credits 140 (ish) + 47 child benefit = £187pw, just on benefit payments for the 3 children each week.
Where is the £187 weekly childrens' benefits money going, if some parents still think they should have more financial help towards school dinners, uniforms and school trips?RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.
