Talktalk, company rep?

Tried to sort out a family friends Talktalk broadband. No adsl link light on. Been offline for 2weeks !! now and need to retry again this morning. Tried another new TT basic router, fed in the username and PW, still nothing. I think it's at the exchange but what to do now. BT have checked the line.
Q. Is the username the full telephone number 0208nnnnnnn ?
Q. Is the PW alphanumeric, letters all capitals ?

If there was no sync light on the original router and the replacement router did not sync either, then I think it's safe to assume that the problem lies probably at the exchange with TT.

As regards the username and password, call TT CS (good luck) and get that information from them.

Even if you had not put in any info for the username and pw in the router, it (the router) should still have detected adsl on the line, if it (adsl) was active (if you see what I mean).

BTW, is your friend on full LLU or still on IPStream?

    Good Luck

If the line is OK from BT's perspective then you need to report the fault to TT. Why wait 2 weeks-it has to be an ISP issue if you have already swapped the router and you have no ADSL green.

I found out after a week and she, being a very, very light user didn't worry, I would be lost after 30 minutes, no BB. At least I'm still with BT, my preferred supplier. Spoke to TT CS last week but still no further forward and not easy to get friend to ring them as has no idea of computers. I pop round when she has a minute too spare.

Aye, I guess thats the risk you take with these free/ £5 a month suppliers, when something goes wrong you get exactly the service and response time you've paid for......

They will normally make you jump through the hoops of testing from the master socket, swapping filters etc, but if there is no ADSL light and the router has been swapped, even TT's laughable 'tech support' should be able to see that it is an exchange or ISP problem.
Doube check by working through this:

I presume that there is no line problem on the voice calls side, in which case the fault needs to be logged with the line rental provider (if not TT)?

    hi Totalsolutions,

If you join the TalkTalk Members forum and post in the Connection And Stability Section this can be investigated in more detail.

If in your first post you confirm the testing you have completed and answered the questions in the sticky post this will ensure the OCE have all the information they require to investigate into this issue.

    Regards

    Hi Zee,

Agents should only give personal addresses in very specific circumstances. For generic issues the contact emails addresses should be used for inbound contact.

If you wish to get the account holder to join the TalkTalk members Forum we can investigate into any issues experienced.

Hi I have had this problem for 2 months some day's it connects for an hour and some day's not at all, I have lost count of all the hours I have spent on the phone to TT.

On the 11th Oct: they sent a man from the Cube he seemed to be struggling after he tried three routers that switched on/off all the time just like my original D-Link, then he was turning my lap top upside down and round about, when I asked what he was looking for he said he couldn't find my wireless switch, I had to show him it was a bright light just above the keyboard, as I watched him I was getting a bit worried, I asked him if he had done anything with the wireless driver he said "he had downloaded one but he didn't know if it was the right one, my lap top still has the info sticker by the keyboard that tells you the driver

He was here 3 HOURS, he had phoned his superviser and asked him to come out because he had an issue, the superviser refused, when I said I hope you are going to put this right he assured me he would not leave until he HAD put it right, he kept asking me if it did work on wireless before, I have only ever used it on wireless, any way after 3 hours his phone rang it was the person how he should have visited after me, well with that he grabbed his bag and was out the door like a rocket, his parting words were "perhaps you can sort it out your self".

I complained to TT and on the Thursday 14th another bloke came and it took him 2 HOURS to sort out what the first one had done to my lappy, I spoke to TT yet again yesturday and the said the had sent it to Jeopardy to investigate why the router keeps dropping.

I am happy to say the connection has now been on for the last 24 hours, I don't know if they have fixed something out side of my home or is just luck so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I am now writing to Charles Dunstone.
