So, what do peeps reckon to this. Salesman claims all is A rated, 10 year insurer guarantee on frames and glass units, kite mark security, new UPVC

In the East Midlands from local company, taking 25% as deposit. (NB how can you insure against supplier going bust and losing deposit?)

£595 - door
£2350 for 6 windows of these sizes with some toughened glass as need for code and fire openers on two upper windows.

170x150
90x65
720x130
220x110
120x90
170x110

Door seemed pricey IMHO.

windows seem ok, but the door could be cheaper.
do they not take Credit Cards?
    Get some gorm.
  • Not bad prices to be honest.

In respect of insuring against the company going bump you should ensure that they are FENSA / CERTASS registered.

If they are they are required to have:

    a) Insurance Backed Guarantee Offers or Provided as Standard
    b) Deposit Indemnity Insurance

In respect of the Insurance backed guarantee this will safeguard the firms guarantee for the duration (normally 10 years) in the event that they go into liquidation.

However there are two options, an offer letter which costs the company peanuts, or giving the insurance as standard (more costly hence rarer).

Best of luck with it all!

How can the company be certain that you will pay?

Seems like a very fair quote to me.:)
  • When can a company ever be certain that a consumer will pay?

Companies obviously bear the risk of these things and have procedures in place to mitigate the associated risks.

I am focused entirely on the consumer in this post - it is not the company writing but the individual, hence the response.

Lack of protection for companies in the current climate is another topic, it does seem that everything is focused on the consumer and not the other way around.

I'm getting two UPVC doors fitted (front and back door) as I write this, got them supplied and fitted with a 10 year guarantee all in for £900.

I shopped around (as my first quote was £1150), get three quotes from 3 local reputable companies, and then get them to beat each other until the lowest gets the job.

The first & most expensive company I went to (who didn't get the job) for a quote, came down over £230 straight away when I asked them if they could beat a cheaper quote I got.

Try to remember to see some examples of work, showrooms or better still if they've fitted work locally.

    Good luck.
