hello, i had my dla renewal form to fill in which i have been doing and have just finnished it,but i just checked my letter and it says my original dla award runs out on the 19th of october which is tomorrow.
was i meant to have this renewal form back to them by the 19th at the latest?
what will happen now , if i post it back tomorrow it will not get to them untill the 20th.
i,m very scared that even if its a day late then seeing as they are trying to cut benefits ,then they might says its a day late and i have to put in a new claim for dla and not a renewal.
i,m just in bed at the moment with my computer crying with worry.
the renewal form is meant to be sent to blackpool but could it be dropped into my local jobcentre instead tomorrow ,which would mean it was back in time?
please can someone advise..thankyou

As far as I am aware, you can't drop it into your local job centre (but don't take my word for it, give the job centre a ring tomorrow and check).
But try not to worry too much. My grand-daughter's form was a day late because the cut off date was a Sunday, and we didn't post it until the Saturday, so it arrived on the Monday and so would have been stamped one day late. But it didn't affect her renewal. We might have been lucky, but that was our experience.
I would suggest that you send the form by special delivery to get there as early as possible (I think it costs £8 to guarantee delivery by 9am). It will still be late, of course, but at least it will be in the first batch to be dealt with.
Then all you can do is wait until you get confirmation of receipt.
BTW do keep the SD slip in a safe place. My DIL did not get an acknowledgment letter and when she phoned up they insisted they had not received the renewal form. Because we'd sent it SD, we were able to tell them the date and time, and even the name of the person who signed for it. When she phoned back the next day, they had found the papers. For the same reason I always keep a full photocopy of everything we send in.
Please note, I am not a benefit adviser, just someone with personal experience. Hopefully other more knowledgeable people will be along soon.
Hugs

Hi today1121, when did you receive the renewal form? Is there a date on the letter that came with the form stating by which date it should be returned?
I don't think dropping it in to the job centre would be helpful - if I'm correct, it is nothing to do with the DWP - it's supposed to go to the DLA office. You need to post it as soon as you can by recorded delivery - make sure you have made a copy of the form for future reference.
If your award runs out on 19th October you will not receive further payments of DLA until you are awarded DLA as a result of your application form.
If you have any questions for them you need to phone the DLA offices in blackpool.0 -
i`m puzzled as the renewals are usually sent to you at least 4 months in advance,as above if your existing claim runs out then no more dla till the renewal is approved(if it is),nothing that the govt has or hasnt annouced will make any difference0

Yea, just to confirm if your award runs out on the 19th October, you will not receive any payments beyond that date. Your renewal, if received after that date, will also be treated as a fresh claim.
Normally, as woodbine says, renewal forms are sent a good number of months prior to your claim running out to give people enough time and also to give DLA enough to assess the claim before you get to the end date. So unfortunately, it would have been up to you to get the claim form is as soon as you could to have given them time to assess it before the renewal end date.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but don't want to lull you into a false sense of security.0 -
OP, did you send your form off on Monday by special delivery? If so, you should check online to make sure it has been received.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0

hi, thankyou everyone, it was due to run out today and i only posted it off today first class so it will be there a day late..
i phoned up the dla and they said because it is a day late my dla will be cancelled and i will have to open a new claim...
i,m very disapointed with myself for getting it back late.
does anyone know what happens now?
when they receive the renewal form i just sent in will they use that for the new claim or will they throw that away and write me a letter saying i need to put in a new claim...
how long will it be before i get a decision on my new claim..
feeling very low at the moment...thanksagain everyone0 -
calm down - just send it recorded delivery, if renewed they will renew it from the last payment date.0
-
If you've sent it in now it may well be dealt with as a renewal of your existing claim. Even if they don't accept it as a renewal and deal with it as a new claim they will not throw it away and expect you to complete a new form. They will simply use the form that you have sent in.
The claim will take somewhere between 8 and 12 weeks to process.
Please bear in mind though that it can take 10-14 days for the claim pack to be registered on system (due to the huge amount of post received by them) so don't worry if you don't receive your acknowledgment immediately.
Good luck!0 -

Don't worry about having to complete another claim form. They will treat the renewal claim form that you sent in as a fresh claim. As said previously, it will take around 12 weeks to assess. Give them a ring after a couple of weeks if you haven't received confirmation that your claim form has been received to check they got it ok.
All the best. :cool:0 -
I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with you again southantrim3. As advised on another post, I work for DLA and as I stated above, if the renewal claim form is received within a reasonable time of the previous award ending it can be dealt with as a renewal and not a new or fresh claim.
I'm sorry, but I feel it is only reasonable to give the OP the correct information.0
