Thank you! It's a bit of a step sideways career wise so fingers crossed
£5 into the savings pot today bringing my total to £282. Determined not to hit the overdraft this week (before payday this wednesday!) so need to s-t-r-e-t-c-h the £13 in small change in my purse to last! I usually end up deep into my overdraft by the end of the month so this'll <hopefully> be a first! :cool:MFW Sept 2013 Starting balance: £101160.59 25 years

So whatever happens then you are going to be doing better than normal - that's great!
I'm not one for saving loads one month and then having a blow out. (My OH does this all the time and it's so frustrating - he does really well then doesn't realise he's back to less than zero after his 'treats.')
I'm learning (very slowly) that its more about making changes that are less noticeable and therefore more sustainable over longer periods. I'm sure £13 can last but make sure you have some fun too!OPs so far £42,139

Hehe don't worry, I'll make OH take me out for mojitos at some point!
I think this month might be a bit of an exception to the rule for me (I've literally worked evenings, nights and weekends all month so haven't had much opportunity to spend!) - I'm sure next month will somewhere in between - a bit more realisitic probably!
It's fun to set yourself the odd wee challenge though (e.g. making the £13 last!) :TMFW Sept 2013 Starting balance: £101160.59 25 years

Hello all!
A few updates:
New reason to be focussed today as I've been [STRIKE]daydreaming[/STRIKE] researching online looking at houses... we had kind of ignored an area we like thinking it would be much too pricey (it's all stone cottages and fields and shabby chic and I LOVE it there) - 2 and 3 bed houses going for <£100K!!! There's one I really like the look of going for £89,000.
My heart is currently breaking in two that there's only £282 in the deposit pot
Need to get on with the savings!!

Hello all!
I'm not very well today... all viral and fluey. Not viral and fluey enough to be properly sick though so I'm in that horrible exhausted limbo lol
Been trying to find a joint savings account to hold with OH so the house deposit cash isn't all in my name - do any of you hold one? Where? I'd quite like one with a little passbook rather than online / cards etc just so it keeps nice and separate from our normal banking, but I'm not too fussy about that.
Payday tomorrow so I've been looking at our budget - thankfully we cancelled the gym last month before it 'rolled over' into another 12 month committment (£46 each per month!! And it's far away! And we went about 4 times! Pushed into it by our flusher / 'designer' friend when we just moved here... big mistake on all counts but that's a different story!) so that leaves us £92 up this month. Tempted to do a SOA but it might scare me as we're both in the middle of moving jobs and salaries are going to go down over the next few months (as a trade off for happiness and actually seeing each other.. totally worth it!) :j Just need to pass this interview first...! Now... do I buy myself a new smart outfit or just dig something from the wardrobe...?

Hi KolaKube
Just been reading your diary and I want to say well done for cancelling the gym membership, I'm toying with the idea, mine's £46 a month as well though luckily rolls over month by month. I'm gonna monitor my usage and decide after Christmas whether I really need it or it's a luxury too far! I live right by a big open heath area but the thought of running around in the cold and wet is not inspiring me
Best of luck for the interview, let us know how you get on x0 -

I suppose the question is would you miss it? Having spoken to other friends since we signed up for that 'deal' - you can get gym / swim memberships for a lot less. We don't miss that gym one tiny little bit, and it frees me up that I don't feel guilty spending £3-4 a time on classes with my friends intermittently at other centres as I'm not already paying a pricey membership somewhere.
Have to say, the thought of running round in the cold and wet wouldn't thrill me either..! :rotfl:
Thank you for the good luck message
In other news, have made it to payday without going over my £13!To be fair it wasn't much of a challenge as the cupboards are heaving and have only had to get bread / milk etc.. but still! :TMFW Sept 2013 Starting balance: £101160.59 25 years
