Santander's new withdrawal procedure

But surely the answer is to budget better around what's in the account, so that you can use an ATM if you have to withdraw down to the last penny.
I don't see why proper savers should have to queue behind somebody with an ATM enabled debit card who wants to take out £6.36 at the counter.
I feel that a person should be able to access their own money in whatever form or amount is convenient. What is a proper saver and whats wrong with withdrawing your own cash.Banks should be more customer focused.
I think it is wrong to suggest that customers should leave their bank;they need to persuade banks to be more personalised.I am surprised the OP has received such muted support.0 -
I used to sometimes use A&L near where I worked to go in and withdraw bus fare home if I had forgotten my breakfast at work and had to use it to buy breakfast. I work over 5 miles away from home and the only route home is along a motorway so obviously I couldnt walk home  I was quite annoyed when they introduced this policy - it meant having to go out of my way and a long walk to a Post Office then a long wait for a bus if this happened.. I do have a debit card but obviously I couldnt get on the bus with it :rotfl: Sometimes a debit card is no use if you need cash for something.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

I am with Santander and don't agree with the above. Although I find some of their policies frustrating I can understand that they are there for a reason. On the very rare occasion I go into a branch it's amazing the amount of people who can't let the 'good old banking days' go. To be honest, with internet banking and a debit card I can't remember the last time I went into a branch.
Also in regards to the above post, great advice recommending a bank who charges a quid a day for an overdraft facility to someone who is having a rough time finaicially. :T0 -
Providing the bank changed their terms and conditions with the required due process, I'm afraid I can't see the Financial Ombudsman Service being able to get involved. I'm sure it's not what you want to hear but any organisation can operate how it sees fit. Your best bet is to move to a better financial institution. There's a list here of bank accounts that can be operated at a Post Office. I think you'd be best to try one of them.0

Just my opinion but ;-
Generally people on site give good advice, but sometimes not
for those of us who have been in the financial situation where every penny matters - I just hate people who preach about "tightening the purse strings and you should have money left at the end of the month" - yeah right, in the real world kids need feeding and bills need paying and i cant see any of these bills reducing.
I agree with most people here, ITS YOUR MONEY, give it back Santander. Why oh why should you have to withdraw a minimum amount of £31, what idiot thought that one out.
AND it is not always as easy as just switching banks.
Good luck with the financial situation and the withdrawing of your cash

I'd have closed the account there and then. But then I'm known for my hot headedness.0

I suggest that you open an account at the Co-op Bank. You will get GOOD customer service from their staff.
Also: (1) free use of the Link ATM network.
(2) helpful telephone banking.
(3) can with draw ANY AMOUNT (e.g. £1.62) from your local Post Office counter. Also pay in money and cheques at the Post Office. Which makes up for their small branch network!
They are what the Giro bank where like before Mrs Thatcher sold it off to the Alliance & Liecester.

it disgusting that a bank can tell you you can't get your money out of your account, absolutly disgracful that they are able to dictate this kind of policy!!
theirs no point saying move banks and then in the next breath saying all banks will do it soon, where do you go then ???
To much power, at the end of the day it's the customers money !!!0 -

Talking of supermarket cashback, could OP spend £1 in a supermarket and get cashback as required? Do supermarkets have a minimum spend before cashback is offered?0
