I currently have Sky+ HD and my 12 month contract is due to run out next month. I phoned Sky to see if I could blag any money off and a nice Scottish chap called Craig sorted me out......

I have the "Sky World HD" package which weighs in at a hefty £61 a month. So, he said Sky have a deal on at the moment (I think he called it the "Customer Loyalty Offer"), where customers can have the Sky World package for just £35.50 a month, FOR SIX MONTHS - inc. the £10 a month HD fee! Not bad I thought, but he also informed me that because I had changed my package over just after the date of when my Direct Debit is collected, next month's bill would only be £14!! (I'm assuming it has something to do with how the package swap over is calculated - but either way, I thought it was pretty good).

Oh, and because I had totally forgotton that you only have to sign up with Sky for an initial 12 month contract - I can give them 31 days notice and cancel any time I like (after November, obviously). So, at the end of six months discounted telly, I'll phone them back and see what else I can blag them for - if I don't like it I could always go to Virgin Media or BT.
So, if you've had nearly 12 months (or over) with Sky - phone them up and get on this deal!

**Note: They did stipulate that this offer is only available on the Sky World package**

When you take on a new offer from sky you enter into a minimum of 12 month, so you will get discount tv for 6 months then full price for the remaining 6 months, you could probably reduce the package you have after 6 months but you will def be contracted for 12 months

    Not necessarily.

My Dad was given 20% off for 6 months when I phoned to cancel Sky Sports on his behalf. I specifically asked if this tied him and was told no.

Oh, that was a relief, from your title I assumed Sky were going to double tarrifs or something equally horrible lol.

    Nice discount for you. :j:T

This isn't the case. When I did the same as the OP a couple of years ago (pre HD) they offered me 6 months for pretty much nothing with no new contract. Admittedly the price went back up after 6 months, but I didn't have to keep it after that (although I did). They're pretty good when it comes to negotiating based on loyalty.

We get sky world for free in our house as my partner many moons ago worked for sky and they never reverted his staff account back to a paying one :D

If you get retentions in Stockport just hang up and try again as they play it by the book there
