Not doing a dissertation?

If there are three to a group there should only be six groups. That aside, you should have access to the marking criteria, which will tell you everything you need to know about how the work will be graded.0

I can't say I've done one myself but it seems that the group project is a very good idea. On the most part because it will actually demonstrate your abilities, is likely to get you noticed (Provided you do well and are seen to be striving for excellence) and will also result in experience and references. I'd go with that over a dissertation.0

The trouble with a group project is that your grade will only be as good as the work of the weakest member. I'd rather sink or swim by my own efforts.0

Also, there's nothing stopping you from approaching companies yourself and seeing if you can do a bit of shadowing or even some work for them. You won't get paid, but it's experience.
Group work just has so many pitfalls for me, and I did several projects in groups throughout my degree.0 -
Some groups are just 2 people, some are 4 people. We got to pick our own groups.
The only marking scheme we've been told is that the uni give us 50% and the company give us 50%. Through i'm guessing we will know more when we actually start getting to work on them, prob after the new year.0 -
I also did my degree in tourism and did a group project (planning and running an overseas expedition) as part of my final year, as well as an individual 10,000 word extended essay which did not have to be related to the expedition. Group work is hard, you will all have different ideas about what is “good” and it’s easy to blame the rest of the group when you don’t get the mark you hoped for. Is there the opportunity to do any part of it individually, even just the evaluation?
The project will give you real experience, and will be a great things to talk about in interviews, but I’m glad I got to do an extended piece of research/writing as well, as I’m currently doing a PGCE and hope to do a masters in the future. I think it all depends on your career aspirations. My tutor gave us some good advice (which we all promptly ignored) which was to pick a group where you got on with people, but not your close friends or people you lived with! I went with my closest friends, 3 of whom I lived with, and we didn’t speak for about a month when we got home!!0 -

Thanks for that, i don't really class the people in my class as my friends. I don't see them socially outside of uni or anything. Half the class i don't even know their names, as they have been there since 1st year. Where as we just went straight into 3rd year, so we don't really mix. So i don't really see any big problems for that part.
I'm not sure if we can do any of it individually yet, we won't knnow until they are all confirmed. We have been given 3 already, 1 to make a marketing plan for somewhere in Bute, 2 to make another marketing plan for somewhere in Bute (same place, but one for summer and one for winter)
And the other is do with marine tourism off the west coast.
There is potentially 2 more going to be in Oban, not been told what they will be yet. They only thing i am worried about is that we are expected to pay for all this ourselves! And will not recieve expenses from the company until the end, when they are satisfied with our reports. Really hoping that the other still to be confirmed projects will be closer to home, as i can't afford to pay for trains etc. We are expected to visit the place at least 3 times!0 -
Hi, I am taking degree course, however mine one is professional project, but not dissertation.0
